Drive Shaft Ring?

Recommended Posts

This ring is supposed to be connected to my drive shift where it meets the rear differential/ transfer case. It’s come off and some parts are missing. Getting the trucked towed to the dealership now.

What is this part called? Anyone have a part number?7458240a9ceed30b8c5108265885f88c.jpg

I just had the same thing fail over the weekend.  Did you ever find the right part name and what was the fix for this?  I figure it came off from the front of the drive shaft, but I couldn't figure out how it was attached to begin with.  Was there some sort of retainer that broke away?

Thank you,

Laurent

i think it is just a vibration dampener.

I have seen a couple of these fail.

I don't know why it is even needed. if the driveshaft is balanced, I don't know if it is necessary

If they have a vibration damper at that location it’s likely for torsional vibration, not unbalance.

We had this happen to our 1-Ton at work.  It was driven over a stump and the stump knocked it off.  We ordered a new one from GM, but in the mean time we just took the driveshaft loose at the rear and slide it off.  We've put probably 20k on the truck without it on there and it's fine.  It used to be mounted directly in front of where it is now on that round circle flange.  It's help on with rubber bushings.  Our new one is still sitting in the box.
