Anybody's brakes grinding?

Recommended Posts

I know the Traverse/Blazer brakes have an issue with a grinding noise, like the brake pad came off the lining.  I've heard it and it's terrible but intermittent.  There is a bulletin out from GM about it, a fix is in the works apparently-new pads with diff composition.    Lately now I've been noticing it once in a great while on my truck.  There is no bulletin for the Silverado/Sierra that I have found.  However a Chevrolet District Service Manager told me they are having a lot of problems with brake grind noise.  Just curious if anyone else is experiencing some intermittent brake grinding.

I left my truck sitting for a week and it felt/sounded like rusty rotors...but no rust.  After a quick trip back to normal.

Instead of referring to bulletins you should pull the wheels off it and actually look.

I did.  The Blazer I first noticed it on, we had the wheels and calipers off, found nothing, had less than 500 miles on it.  That's when I searched for bulletins and found one for them.  I've noticed a few Blazer/Traverse owners complain since then. All low mile 2021's.  My truck brakes look fine, like new, I've got 7,000 miles on it.  Thanks Timmay

I have a 2021 Sierra Denali. Happens early in the day most every day. Groaning, grinding, rough sound front brakes. A couple of hard brakes and its gone. It is annoying. Today it happened mid day on the road. Always slower in town speeds. I have 7k on her now. I have had wheels off and inspected and no issues to be seen. I bought brand new and broke everything in correctly. Google tells me its seems to be common with no definite answer, most opinions are a new pad compound is in play.

I have the same issue.  The temps have fallen dramatically where I live and this is the only time of year I have this issue.  The first 2-3 times I brake in the morning I get squeaking, after that its gone.  Come summer time, the issue is nearly gone with some occasional intermittent squeaks.  Very odd.

Had some grinding and groaning during moderate to hard braking from the front left at 5500 after the dealer did the first service. That eventually went away.

At 16,500 I have developed a squeal from the rear during the first couple of brakes for the day.

anyone ever sort this out? '23 here with 5600mi

First started with the low metallic groans/creek at the first cold roll of the drive. Nothing after.

I also randomly get the grinding noise during braking at random during mid-low brake pressure.
