Duramax Ticking

I have a 2003 Sierra with a Duramax and in the last few weeks I have noticed a ticking on it. The truck has only 2800 miles on it so I'm not sure what could be causing it.

Any ideas before I take it into the dealer next week?

I don't know what the problem is, Sorry...

But the ironic thing about it is that a few years ago, you wouldn't be able to hear a diesel tick over all the "clatter" it made.

Mine has a tick in it, but I have came to the conclusion the only reason I can hear it is because all the other noise is gone. After driving a Cummins for 5 years the Duramax is quite. I beleve a lot of the noise people hear are in the Louder Diesels but never heard them because of all the other noise. This is just my opinion. I have seen a lot of posts about this tick on other forums, some people have it some don't. But what ever it is nobody has had a breakdown from it.

This issue was addressed by GM and they say there is nothing to worry about. Like said above, the new diesels run much more quiet and noises that used to be masked by the clanging are now more apparent.

I also have "the tick" and it seems to come and go. Some say it is gone after they do an oil change but comes back later. Nobody can figure out the exact reason for this "tick" but also no engines have failed because of it.

I have the tick on my 04. It was said to be coming from the Fuel Pump. I have no idea what causes it but I have heard it goes away after 10,000 miles.

That ticking noise is deliberately introduced to the DuraMax so we don't need to be jealous of the CSK and piston slap noises that our gasser-owner friends have.
