Anybody running B20 regularly in the 3.0L? Where to find it?

Recommended Posts

I live in Tidewater Virginia and I have a 3.0L 1500 with about 1000 miles on it. I am interested in trying B20 in the truck. Does anyone have experience with it? Looks like the Diesel supplement says it should be fine to run. Its fairly new so I am not terribly worried about the fuel filter going bad so soon since there really shouldn't be much buildup yet. Anyone know how this affects MPG and performance overall?

Im also trying to find a place that does public retail B20 sales. A lot of places require some sort of card access. Is this something that I, as someone without any commercial interest or fleet, can obtain?

Thank you

The only people that know what Tidewater Virginia is are people who either live there, or have lived there. Just tell everybody what city you're in, such as Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News. If somebody has info about your particular city they'll be more helpful versus telling you about locations on the peninsula when you live on the Southside (or vice versa).

Second, I don't even know what B20 is. Never heard of it before. I thought it was an airplane, but you make it sound like it's a fuel. Therefore, I can't help you any further. Others might, but you might want to be more specific.

My how times have changed, back in 2005/6 I had a Duramax and GM did not want you running biodiesel or anything above say B5 or B10. We had a few Biodiesel facilities around the Fort Worth area. It was made mainly from Soy. Had an instance where I ended up with what looked like tribbles in the fuel tank...so something didn’t react well. After $600 at the dealer to diagnose and flush the system I stayed away from biodiesel. Now many people have not had issues with it.

Anyway, B20 is Diesel mixed with 20% biodiesel.

They are approving use of up to B20 now.

They are still warning against having B20 in it it storing for a longer period.

They are also concerned and recommend against using B20 if expected temperatures are below 32*F.

Not sure why I would want to run an Airplane in my Truck. B20 is a Biodiesel blend. I referred to Tidewater VA for people who are familiar with it. I live in Norfolk, but all of the cities in the Tidewater are close enough to drive to. I wouldn't expect someone from Texas or Montana to know where I could buy Biodiesel near me over a thousand miles away.

I use to live in the Western Branch area of Chesapeake. I know that people won't drive from Virginia Beach to Suffolk or Newport News just to get fuel. "It's too far" was applied to anything 20 minutes away, especially if a bridge or tunnel was involved. Somebody in Norfolk might even say Pungo or Portsmouth is too far away to get fuel.

With all that said, I did the Google search for you and came up with the following: https://vacleancities.org/station-locator/biodiesel-station-locator/#/analyze?region=US-VA&show_map=true&fuel=BD

If you refine your search to just biodeisel, Virginia, and public access you'll find there only 1 station in the entire state where you can fill your tank. Unfortunately, it's in Richmond.
