Class Action Lawsuit for Trans On GM Trucks?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else been contacted about joining a class action lawsuit regarding problems with the Transmissions in GM Trucks from 2014 -2019?  Particularly the 8 speed transmission.  I have a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali with the 6.2L and 8 speed transmission.  It has 49K on the clock.  It has had 2 trans fluid and filter changes at the dealership (And the service Bulletin to not use Dexron Fluid) and the transmission has been reprogrammed 5 times.  It still changes gears erratically, surges, clunks, and sometimes skips.  Occasionally it gets a shutter like you are running over rumble strips.  Dealer said its a known problem, but now my powertrain warranty is up.

I was contacted by a law firm that says they are building a class action law suit to have GM repair/replace the transmissions and repay any out of pocket expenses.  I would just like to have my truck fixed.  I am not one to jump on the lawsuit caravan.  Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if they had been contacted regarding a lawsuit

I haven't been contacted at all, but would sure like to be.  After multiple trips to the dealership, I got my transmission replaced under warranty.  It was good for another 20-30k, but now the new trans is starting to do the same thing as the previous one.  My warranty ran out 6 months ago.  If you could share the law firm info, it would be appreciated.

This damn truck has been nothing but problems.  Transmission, leaking oil cooler lines, the brake vacuum pump, A/C condenser, starter, the list goes on and on.  I'd love to replace it, but there is nothing on the dealer lots right now.  And the trucks that are on the lots, they want $10k more than they were asking for the same thing a year ago.

you guys aint gonna win a class action against GM on the transmission issue.  GM is forced to lower the lifespan of these trannies because they have to meet EPA emmissions and fuel milage goals mandated by the Feds in Washington. this is a wheelspin put out by lawyers looking for a buck.

if you want reliability take the truck to a TUner, they will fix the issues, or call Blackbear for software upgrades.

if that is the case, why do many places places the blame in the design if the TC?

stock TC is fine for people who drive like grandpa's and are easy on the drive-line.  Once you start using all the potential HP these motors make you put lots of wear on the system. depending on model year , the trans thermostat overheats the entire transmission. you can add another 100 F to the trans thermostat readout on the DIC for the torque converter. GM over cycles the clutch in the TC to reduce slip, and minimize fuel consumption. I've disabled my TCC thru 1-3rd gears and i still get good mpg i lost about 1-2 MPG vs stock software, then when i disabled the TCC for 1-4th gear i lost about 3-4 MPG vs stock lock up parameters.  the stock TCC has the TC lock up in 1-6th right off the line when the most load is put on the converter GM activates lock up, high loading and high heat  in 1-2nd gear

like i said the software and thermostat is designed to meet EPA fuel emissions mandates by the Feds. this gives the truck awesome mileage at the cost of very high wear, and short life.

the trans fluid can handle the temps, but  the clutches, bushings and plastic components CAN NOT take the heat

My understanding is the lawsuit was thrown out. GM argued that warranty only applies to defects in materials/workmanship, not poor design.

That statement by gm is why I'll never buy from them again, and for that matter any vehicle. Because they're all a ****** show. Pretty soon it will only be the rich and powerful driving electric vehicles. Governments know this, they know a lot that's not being said. Why? Because its their job to maintain control of the people.

Whether your religious or not; believe in something or you don't. The future doesn't care. Buckle up, because covid is nothing compared to whats coming.

Not sure why I brought that up... If you can see and hear you already know this. Those that can't, well... you have to find it for yourself, its not something you can be shown.

yes your right, just lease em and trash em'.  A family member recently started a lease on a new BMW as per my recommendation NOT to buy the thing! they keep imagining buying out the lease in 2-4 years, lol...

You should see how much electronic nonsense and Bullsh1t they installed into their cars. the entertainment system is so complicated and overwhelming that i find the car dangerous to drive , it has the computer TV screen sitting on the dash throwing all sorts of information overload at you. completely horrible experience for driving! not sure about the long term material quality, i'm sure 8 years of the suns UV hitting it, it will start cracking and flaking apart.

as for the future of our country it' met its demise on 9-11, who ever is running the show now is driving the final nails in the coffin of the America we once knew... I'm learning to just go with the flow and dont believe anything you hear or see..
