How to disconnect this connector?

Recommended Posts

Usually, it's been my experience, any yellow or orange connector is for the air bag crash sensors. DO NOT DISCONNECT with the battery still connected or you'll set the SRS light & not sure which device you will need to reset it. Just sayin...

Do not disconnect any yellow or orange plugs at all, after disconnecting the battery wait at least 30 minutes for the airbag modules to discharge internally. But I see no reason at all to disconnect this unless you are replacing an airbag.

Lots of bad guys steal steering wheel airbags, and they have been knocked out by the airbag exploding... also they will explode even when you disconnect them by static electricity.

I am proceeding with due caution! The airbag light comes on intermittently, and comes on when parking brake on  my Hummer H3 is released.  I found this GM Service directive (Service Airbag - Have Codes - Ask the GM Technician - GM-Trucks.com (gm-trucks.com))  and tried compressing the described connector.  The airbag light went off immediately. The directive indicates "Disconnect and reconnect the IP harness to inflatable restraint module connector C221 or C222 THREE times. <LI type=1>Clear the DTC and road test the vehicle"

It appears the problem is the connector is anchored to the same bracket as the parking brake stop. When the parking brake is released the connector is shocked and air bag light is fired.  I compressed the connector and the airbag light went out.

I want to do as recommended in the tech brief, but I want to do it safely and without damaging the connector.
