New Duramax Owner

Recommended Posts

I bought a 2018 Chevy Silverado 3500 LB duramax with 86,000 miles today and I am new to duramax motors. I know to put fuel additives when I fill up. Along with using shell rottella oil and changing the fuel filter every oil change along with plugging in the truck in the winter. The truck will be used to pull a fifthwheel occasionally which I am looking at the 20,000 pound and under range. The rest of the time the truck will be used for daily driving. What problems have y’all had and what else are y’all doing to take care of your trucks?

Nobody I know ever changes the fuel filter at every oil change. Maybe every 20-25,000 miles but not every 5,000 miles. I can put 5,000 miles on my work truck in a matter for 30 days and no way the filter is an issue at that point. I put truck stop diesel in it every 2-3 days too.

The block heater doesn't work at temps above 0 degrees, the owners manual should say something on that.

Run whatever oil and filter you want. If you want top notch stuff I suggest Amsoil but really anything else will work so long as it meets the engines requirements for viscosity and such.
