Has your VIN description changed?

Recommended Posts

I recently looked up recall information on my 19 Silverado on the GM website https://my.gm.com/recalls as well as Chevy https://my.chevrolet.com/recalls and to my surprise, my vehichle description has recently changed and is now incorrect.

These sites state "Currently, there are no recalls or programs associated with your 2019 Chevrolet Silverado LD Crew RST/LT-T1"

My Silverado is clealry the new model, however, is now listed as an LD by GM. When searching outside vin checkers/decoders the vehicle comes up as it should (2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST Crew Cab 4WD) so it seems only GM/Chevy have now listed my new model SIlverado as an LD.

Has anyone else seen this with their 2019?

I see the same thing, but for my 2020.  Strange.  I'm curious if any experts are on here to share more.  I'm going to call GM sometime to find out about this.

Yea its just GM being stupid.  They started referring to the T1 1500s as "LD" for "Light Duty".

The old body 2019 are "LD" but they are the "Legacy Double Cab" and "LD" is the branded badge abbreviation on the truck.

Ah ha! Thank you redwngr and newdude

Funny how GM wouldn't tell about the VIN description change unless I gave them all my contact information to share with their advertising/marketing partners. Nah, I'm good 😆

Also interesting that it changed at all, considering it used to simply say "1500 Crew Cab" but I very much appreciate your reply and clarification.

Here's the real kicker. The LD label has been under your nose the whole time, but you didn't notice it. Every 1500 has a piece of plastic on the far end of the driver's side cowl that's tucked slightly under the fender. I noticed it today with the hood open. It is embossed LD in letters that are about 2-3 inches tall. I'll try to get a pic later if requested. My truck is a 2020.

Federal regulations define a light-duty truck to be any motor vehicle having a gross vehicle weight rating (curb weight plus payload) of no more than 8,500 pounds (3,860 kg) which is “(1) Designed primarily for purposes of transportation of property or is a derivation of such a vehicle, or (2) Designed primarily for transportation of persons and has a capacity of more than 12 persons, or (3) Available with special features enabling off-street or off-highway operation and use.”[1] Light trucks includes vans, pickups, and sport utility vehicles.[2]
