Swapping out Tow Hooks on a '21 TB

Recommended Posts

Tried the search function but couldn't find much of anything on "how to's". Any tips on how to swap the tow hooks on the TB? Just ordered OEM black ones and wanted to see how involved it was before tackling it this weekend.

I don't know how different the Silverado would be but on the Sierra it was pretty easy.

there are 2 bolts each, one threads into the tow hook itself the other is a through bolt. the bolts are on there really tight. I had trouble getting them loose with a breaker bar even. but there is plenty of room up there between the rails. I was able to get my impact wrench on them and it remove them with ease.

on one side, driver's I think, the long bolt won't come straight out. the head of it hits the threads of another bolt above it before it will clear the through hole. too bad they didn't install it so the nut was on that side on the assembly line. when you reinstall, I'd definitely insert that bolt from the other side. you can get a wrench on the bolt above and thread it out a ways. it does not need to be removed, just loosen to get enough clearance to remove the tow hook bolt. once loose the hooks pull straight out through the front. on the sierra there is a rubber bezel around them that flexes out of the way. I think I read its a foam thing on the Silverado.

Thank you for the tips! Overall doesn't seem too bad.

Want to sell your red ones?

Let me get the black ones on next week. If I like them over the red, I'll definitely sell em to you! My TB only has 600 miles on it if that matters to you lol
