A little late to the conversation, but I leave my Volt running and lock the doors all the time.  Get in, start car, get out manually lock, shut door(keep key with you).  I can also leave the key in it and lock and unlock with my cell phone or other keyfob.  It does not like you leaving the key in it and trying to lock it form the outside.  It will allow you to hit the lock button on the door and shut it.  I assume the trucks would be the same way.  The Volt is a great bluetooth speaker for a volleyball game.
