I pull a Airstream Flying Cloud 28 RBT   It weighs in at 7,000 lbs ready for the road.  I have a 2020 GMC 6.6 gasser and it pulls it just fine.   Used to have a 2011 GMC Duramax  LML that I bought new and towed a 34 ft 5th wheel,. It weighed 10,040 lbs ready for the  road.  We downsized as we are traveling more rather than staying put in one place. Loved the duramax but just didnt need it anymore towing a 7,000 lb trailer.  When I bought the 2020 gasser, I saved $10,000 by not going diesel.  Figure thats  pays for about 3.5 years of driving .  Thought I would miss the diesel , especially the exhaust brake, but that is not the case.   Love the 6.6 gasser.  Plenty of power.  and the six speed trans with 3.73 gears is just fine too.

I have a 2021 3500 AT4 standard 6'10" box and just purchased a Jayco Talon 5th wheel trailer. I seem to be having a difficult time getting an answer as to whether or not I can use a fixed hitch or need a sliding hitch. These trucks apparently have moved the center point 2 inches back of the axle and the bed is longer so I'm hoping I don't need a slider. A hitch shop told me they've had a couple guys take out their tailgates with sliding hitches, and the RV dealer is no help as they have no idea.

JamesR125 I have the same truck on order and have a 5th wheel and will be using my Andersen hitch. Slider is only needed if you have that short box that is less than 6'. My '16 2500 worked without the slider also. Just don't try to jackknife it more than 90 degrees when maneuvering and your cab is safe. Most newer 5th wheels have rounded fronts which allows for more clearance.

I also have the Andersen Ultimate Hitch. Do you have the OEM towing package with the pucks in your truck bed? You can measure your 5th wheel pinbox length and compare against measurements from the center of the gooseball position to your tailgate and side rails of your bed to determine if the AUH can be installed to get the full added 9" of cab clearance.  The process is described in the installation manual for the hitch which you can download from their website. In my case, my pinbox (Airborne) clears both the tailgate and side rails allowing me to enjoy the full extra 9" of clearance to the cab that the Andersen offers. Due to the longer GM bed, the extra 2" setback by the factory and the 9" added by the Andersen setup, my trailer connected with the fixed hitch clears my cab by more than it did with the Pullrite Superglide on my Ram 3500 short bed.

 

In addition, chances are that your trailer is new(er) and has the front corners carved out for added cab clearance. I would be very surprised if you will need a slider hitch.

2021 venture sporttrek 327vik. 10,800 gvwr and 8,400 uvw but I'm just a hair over 9k. 36' total length.  Pulls great!!! '21 crew LT 2500 6.6 gas.

Tow a 12k 5th wheel with 20' gas LT 2500ccsb. I have a slider that I moved from my 16' 2500. I only used it once in last truck and doubt I will ever need it in this truck. The truck handles the load fine. Pin plus hitch comes in at 2550 give or take 100 pounds depending on load trucks payload is 3552.
