Cost of a Diesel

Recommended Posts

Has anyone out there ran their Duramax's out over 100000? 200000? How are the costs for parts on the diesel? I know that the motor is good in excess of 300K but what about the normal parts that wear out over time?? Do diesels have these?? I have heard that the parts for diesel motors are very expensive compared to gas motor parts...

Just trying to see what happens after the warranty runs out... I am familiar with the gas motors but the diesel one I know nothing about...

Thx

I typed up a huge response and my puter locked up.Short and simple I have followed the Dmax since the came out and have yet to hear of a engine failure. Some people have put several hundred thousand on them in commercial usage. If a duramax was used for heavy towing for say 300,000 miles the owner would save 20-25k in fuel costs over a 8.1 and have a more capable rig.If the turbo failed at that point you spend 1500 bucks on a new one.Fuel injectors are expensive but as the trucks get older and more popular aftermarket companies will step up with more affordable injectors. The duramax is built for high compression and 20psi of boost and are pretty much bomb proof as far as internal parts.I think a person would get tired of the truck before it actually wore out.

Actually I wasn't concerned about the motor itself, They sound pretty bullet proof to me.. What I was wondering about is stuff like the injectors, injector pumps, starters etc etc... Stuff external to the block..
