General Motors Sells Number 1 sellng Truck.

Recommended Posts

Well, the Ford guys will argue it's unfair to combine GMC and Chev numbers - but no point going there except I wonder what they would say if Mercury labelled trucks were still made?

It might be a bit unfair to say # 1 selling truck, more like # 1 selling manufacturer.

Also, I saw a related note about Ford selling more than 2x as many trucks as passenger cars. In this case, trucks includes SUVs and full-size vans too. I wonder what GM's ratio is?

I once heard that furd included fleet and contract sales in addition to private sales for their numbers, whereas others didn't ?? Don't know 'bout that, but I DO know-

I spent a solid 7hrs r/t driving over T-Day weekend. WITHOUT A DOUBT, there was a good 6~7 to 1 GM's to furds. I was really shocked at how few (well, not so shocked !!) that dudge was very poorly represented, 1 in 10 or 12 trucks, at best :shakehead: . A complete opposite of in-town, where you can't spit w/o hitting a d**n dudge hemi cc  ..... (where were they all ??? afraid of long distances ?!!? really kinda weird, I thought...)

Truly I feel this to be an accurate representation of what folks are driving, not what paid-bozos in ads tell me. (Or at least us smart folks in Texas !!) What do y'all see out there??

But why such a difference between in-town and over the road, I wonder ?? Lots of furds in town, too.... but still a whole bunch of the good stuff out there :(:( ....

I used to say the same thing about more Chevys on the road, but then realized that I just don't see the Fords.

I don't remember who here said it a while back but they called it "Ford Myopia".....I just don't see them. I only see Chevys and Dodge (They stick out like a bugger on a hot chicks nose.)

That explains why I don't see as many anyway.

Last time I heard Ford outsold Chevy in OK and Texas, insofar as truck sales are concerned.

I think we had this topic brought up earlier this year...I'll have to look.

Nice thread, Wing. Well, till it got to the it's a tundra/it's a ford part !!!!!

But I dunno 'bout what you say about the myopia... I'm a pretty attentive driver (and passanger). I'm the one always saying, whoa, check out that... and so on...

I'll see what happens next time out...

One reason that you may see more GMs than you see the f***s, is because f*** gets alot of the commericial market. Private individuals tend to lean toward plush, thus a GM. Companies are looking at the bottom line which is dollars. And f***s can be had for less dollars to fleets. f*** still gets to claim thes numbers as sales. And when f*** looks at their numbers, it usually includes all the f series, from the 150 to the 550.

So depending on what day of the week it is the commercial f***s may be locked away in some companies gated parking lot. Or the GMs may be in some one's garage.

Facts are facts, GM light duty trucks consistantly out sell the f-series. But GMC, and Chevrolet, are still considered two different brands. Even though they are built on the same assembly lines.

It seems like I see more Fords in Texas than anything. I'm in the Austin (Central Texas) area and it seems like I see many more Fords than anything else. My recent search in the Truck Trader showed more Fords too. I've just never liked the interiors on them. A huge expanse of cheap plastic along with leather that looks and feels more like vinyl (definitely doesn't smell like leather). I like the new 150s interiors a lot better, but I still have no intention of ever going Ford!

I'm looking for a new ride. A 3500 SRW LT Duramax/Allison is what I'm considering, or ANOTHER F-350 Ford like I have now. Does anyone know WHY GM only offers those CHEAP STEEL WHEELS W/even CHEAPER TRIM RINGS? I have asked GM Reps at several car shows and the BS...like "you can't make an alloy wheel to carry the weight", it would cost GM millions of $$$ to tool up for a minor option..nonsensical drivel that doesn't stop. I refuse to buy a $40,000 truck w/steel wheels!! Any one know the reason...keep in mind my F-350 w/9800gvw has factory alloys and the GM weight rating of 9900# is just a gimmick to 1 up Ford.

Today, I drove 120 miles on I-94 and "counted trucks". I counted all pickups & SUVs. The totals were:

Chevy/GMC- 65

Dodge- 9

Ford- 16

This was obviously not a sientific study, only what I observed driving for about 2 hrs.

I may have missed some, but probably as many Chevys/GMCs as the others.

And Ford says they are #1???? Not here, folks.
