2500 Silverado

Recommended Posts

So now that I might be looking into a 2500 Silverado tell me what I should steer towards if I’m pulling a 8200 or 8700 lb dry weight travel trailer??  6.6 gas?? 6.6 diesel. Camping will be 4-5 months out of the year. Mainly staying in the state of Michigan for now. Thanks for the input. Looking forward to what you think. Any year 2500s I should stay away from etc.

I have a 15 2500 6.0. Currently tow twice a year, to and from seasonal spot. I opted for the gas motor cause its my daily driver, i drive at most 20 miles a day sometimes less. I had a 10klb bumper pull she did good. On e85 i would get 6.5 mpg avg with 5% grade climbs. I just did gears and this truck loves it. The newer 2500 has the 6.6 with 3:73. First thing i would do on that platform is gears, cause the trans is the same as prev gen

I believe you are making a good decision to choose a 2500/3500 with such a heavy trailer.   The answer to your question depends on your budget.  If finances are good, a new 3500 DMax High Country will give you the most towing pleasure.  However, a gently used 2500 Silverado Custom 6.0 will give you ample towing confidence.  My neighbor recently purchased a slightly used 2500 Sierra base for his towing needs.  His intention was to use it as a second vehicle, but he now prefers it as his daily driver!

stay away from anything after 2016,  infact i would go back a previous generation. but if your  getting the K2 2014-16 is my cut off .  tuning and mods cost increase and get more complicated 2017-present

if i was gonna tow cross country  it would be a 5th wheel, and a 6.0  2500 with 6 speed, part time towing i like 5th weels in a 1500 truck with the 6.2 motor try and find a 373 rear end, or the best gearing possible.

long hauling thru crosswinds is no fun on a class 3 hitch,
