Stabilitrak and Traction control disaster

Recommended Posts

How you disable the stability and traction control on these new trucks? And i mean ACTUALLY disable it, not just pushing or holding the button on the dash.

I have a 2019 LT z71 and had to go through about 8" of snow (Canada). turned off traction and stability, and hit it with some speed, as soon as i got in the deep stuff the truck pulled power and got stuck. Now my engine light is on.

I have searched the web, forums, talked to mechanics, and nobody can tell me how to disable it. I know on the 2018's you could just pull the ABS fuse, but on the 2019's and up it will put the truck in limp mode.

Sometimes you need to spin the wheels to get where you are going (snow and mud). What kind of truck can't go drive in a muddy field(farmers)? Or down the street after a snow storm?

All help is appreciated.

If your engine light is on, that's most likely why the power was pulled and you went into limp mode.  With my traction control turned off, my truck will spin its tires from here to Katmandu and never reduce power.

Go to your local auto shop, have them scan the code, and figure out why your engine light is on.

When you hold the button to disable, Stabilitrak will turn itself back on somewhere around 50 km/h.  To completely disable on the older trucks, you simply unplug the steering position sensor on the steering column (in the cab.)  Not sure if you can do that on the newer models.  It does throw a "service something-or-other" message on the screen, but no codes.

Your light sounds like a bigger issue.

Im in Airdrie alberta, and same here got sh"" tons of the white SH"" . had no issue in my 17 crew, shutting of stb and trac. as long as you turn it to 4wd not the awd , and then hitting the buttons to turn them off. But they will only turn off if its in 4wd hi or lo.

I have to switch mine into "off-road" then shut off TC to get the truck to do any type of slide or spin without pulling my power. Off-Road with TC off seams to ease back but not turn off a lot of the nannies. I have a 2020 Tboss.

I am from Alberta too and when I got my 2014 I hit the ditch because of not being able to turn stabilicrap off (yes it does come back on at 56kph). The computer decided what was best to do on black ice for me and threw me into the ditch when I could have easily saved it.  So I figured out pulling the #3 fuse for antilock brakes disabled it. This worked on my 2016 2500 as well. Now that i am buying a new 2021 AT4 I am trying to find a way. The owners manual for these new trucks does not even list fuses for antilock brakes anymore so that is not going to work. Not sure what to do.....

For those of us that drive in deep snow /mud and need momentum and tire spinning to get through sometimes this is horrible. And 4 hi does not disable it only 4 low does according to the manual.
