2014 silverado 1500 complete power failure

Hello, I'm Logan. I have a 2014 Chev Silverado 1500 Z71. I was driving it the other day and I had complete power failure, dash lights out, engine turned off, hazards didn't work. I pushed it out of the road and sat there for maybe 5 mins thinking of what to do. Then my interior lights came back on and it started right up. It did this two more times within two days. And every time it seems that if I leave the truck for 5 mins and then come back it will start right up with no issues. The only check engine light that's been on for a couple weeks is for the catalytic converter. 

 

I tore apart the dash to fix the P218 ground issue, but there's no ground in that location on my truck. Anyone have the same issue? I put a wrench on the battery connections and the ground on the fender. Any thoughts on what I should look at next? I called three Chev dealers here in UT and none of them had any idea what the problem would be.

Sounds like a ground issue. Several videos on youtube on this. This guys video below id kinda boring to watch & hard to hear but he solved his issue by replacing the ground.

That first video is the ticket! Thanks for the reply! Funny, I looked at several Chev forums and looked at youtube but neither of those videos came up. What he described is exactly what my truck is doing. Thanks for taking the time to look for those for me.

You have no G218 ground near the Driver's side A pillar?  There's also another on the passenger side A pillar, same area adjacent to the windshield.

Another major ground is beneath the battery, behind the fender liner on the frame.  Passenger side.  Wheel does not need to be removed to accessed, only turned full lock to the left.  Pull back on fender liner towards the bottom and you'll see it.

@BlaineBug Is that one of the grounds that comes from the battery cable itself? If so I put a wrench on that one as well.

It goes down low to the frame behind the wheel liner, behind the tire.  Tightening it might not be enough.  Check for wax undercoating or corrosion between the terminal lug and frame.

My truck is a 2018 so it shouldn’t need the dash ground fix. I’m not having power steering issue but occasional service stabilitrack message in the DIC immediately after startup then it quickly goes away. The passenger frame ground had a decent layer of wax between the cable and frame. I cleaned it up with a paper towel. Issue hasn’t returned yet...

Had a similar issue on my 2018, tried cleaning up the grounds, added an extra ground to the driver side from the battery terminal, neither of which did much.  Ended up replacing the entire negative battery cable, which fixed the problem.  Apparently there are issues with these cables that cause all these issues and replacing them is the only real fix.

No problem.  Hope it helps.  I am also really surprised as you say G218 by the driver side and passenger side A-pillar doesn't exist on your 2014.  That just can't be!  And that ground was a major fault for the 2014-2015 and possibly 2016 pickups as well.  With the dashboard sound insulation getting trapped between the ground eyelet and body.  I'm thinking you missed it or weren't looking in the right spot?

FYI there's also a ground point under the drivers side area that needs attention.

On my first trip out side of town my used 2014 Silverado with 40k miles was having cruise control issues. I would engage the cruise and then it would soon disengage. This happened about 3 times bf the power flicked off and then on again but the truck kept operating. Shortly after this when traveling slow in bumper to bumper traffic the truck lost all power. No warning lights or symbols, nothing. I was dead in traffic and so I when to battery area and grabbed both terminals to see if loose but both were tight. I went back in cabin and when talking to AAA the power flicked and came back on. I resumed our trip but did not touch or use the cruise again on our 2 day outing and no more repeat issues. 
I have since only used the cruise a few short times with no issues. A friend and I did proactively take off both battery connections to they’re old battery and wire brushed and sprayed corrosion inhibitor on the terminals. We did notice some slight white corrosion type material on the ground terminal bf cleaning. It has been several hundred miles since the power loss but my next proactive step is to take the truck back onto the highway using the cruise to see if a repeat incident occurs. If not maybe the issue was fixed with cleaning the terminals.

PS- last night I followed the online bloggers suggestion of checking the grounds under the front dash. Both corner grounds appeared to be absent the insulation interference others have suggested so I did nothing to either of the ground posts and just closed the dash back up like it was before. I am hopeful that I fixed the problem by cleaning the batty terminals. I did check with the prior owner of the truck who stated no prior problems occurred for them.

I have a 2014 chevy silverado it has brand new battery. Sometimes it has no electrical power at all. No clicking when try to start just nothing. If I disconnect the battery for a few seconds then hook it back up it has power again. No pattern as to why it does this. Any ideas?
