2016 transmission problems

Recommended Posts

I have a 2016 silverado 1500 and have been hearing a lot about torque converter going bad and damaging transmission.

My question would it be wise to get a better quality torque converter now and avoid future expensive troubles.

Also who makes the best torque converter and if torque converter is replaced does the computer needs to be program.

thank you for your input

If you want to be proactive and hope that you don't experience those problems, then yeah it could be a good idea to replace the converter before a failure happens. That still doesn't mean that the transmission won't have some other sort of internal problem someday.

A new OEM converter would be fine or I believe some have gone with the CTS-V torque converters. Going aftermarket like from a place like Circle D is another option. They sell a out of the box replacement but with a higher stall speed that would ideally want a tune done for it. You could likely contact them to have them custom make the stall lower so it wouldn't need a tune though.
