So I’m playing devils advocate here. What if Chevy says the vehicle is running fine besides making a noise that you find not normal. I’m not saying it’s right but does a noise make it a lemon?

How my lawyer described it is that its a brand new truck no noise is normal.

He said also if you were to put the truck next to another brand new truck and it doesnt make the same noise then its not normal.

I went through the whole buy back experience with GM. I worked with the dealership and also with GM personally. I filed a case number, had service technician, sales manager, general manager at dealership phone numbers and called them daily. My truck was a 2016 GMC Sierra SLT 5.3L with 6 speed. It had the “Chevy shake” and its was in shop for over 4 months maybe longer. Been 4 years now. Anyways, I called them daily! Along with GMs customer service representative along with my case number.

They brought up a technician from Texas to try and fix, but couldn’t. I was very upset with the fact a $55k truck was in shop but I did get a FREE loaner vehicle from GM that I put miles on that wasn’t going in my truck ( I know it’s not the same thing but I didn’t have to pay for it, put 3500 miles on that vehicle?)

They did everything they could to try and fix it, they couldn’t, they got it better but still have vibration in it, so I spoke to ALL of those people I mentioned before and GM and dealership agreed to buyback.
I ended up trading it back in/buyback and it cost me $4000 but GM threw in $2500 headrest DVDs for kiddos and installed them into my 2017. So realistically it cost me $1500. I thought it was a great deal and they treated me with kindness and respect.
may end of the day it is a vehicle/machine and they do break or don’t work properly. Just file a case number, be kind, patient, polite, yet very stern with whoever your working with and it can and will be resolved

Good luck

Read the 100s of comments here about gm leaving customers in the dark and offering no help. You got lucky. GM 4 years ago is different the GM now. But they were a nightmare to me on my 2016 as well as my 19

My 16 Silverado was a shaker. 7 times at the dealer. They did EVERYTHING to try and fix it. I was polite, kind and patient and it still got me no where. GM finally told myself and dealer there is nothing more they can do and the truck is operating fine. my shake was so bad that it would spill whatever drink  you had in the center console cup holder. The dealer felt super bad as one of my friends was the service advisor. GM simple would not do anything else.

Im definitely not impressed with their service at all. My 2016 had issues too unfortunately and took forever for them to acknowledge it.

Get a lawyer, been on this site more than almost anyone here and trust me when i say, anyone who got satisfaction with a buy back 9 times out of 10 only happened because a lawyer got involved and got GM off their normal line of it's "Normal" or "as intended". The majority of dealers will give you the run around if you try and handle this yourself without a lawyer.

I am curious if you have an update. Did the dealership fix the truck?

I thought i updated this sorry!

So 2 or so weeks ago i picked truck up. They fixed one issue but didnt fix the engine knock. I did my final repair attempt and reached out to my lawyer. We filed suit. So will be seeing what happens. It'll be about 4 months before i hear officially tho unfortunately. She couldn't guaranteed i would get a buyback but said they do not take cases unless they know theyll get me compensation cause they don't get paid unless i win. They seemed to think itd be more of a cash and keep settlement but couldn't tell me how much but we can negotiate depending on what they say. We will see what happens.

Anyone reading this or thinking they have a case REACH OUT TO A LEMON LAW LAWYER. Gm will not take care of you at all as others have mentioned.

If they do get a buyback im done with GM

Any update on your case? Mine is up to about 60 days out of service over 5 visits to the shop. Engine did end up being replaced. Have already been back to the shop again since then for another repair. I'm headed in the same direction that you are, probably a few weeks behind you. Wondering if you will end up with a buy back or settlement. Hope it is working out well for you. What a headache.

Back in December they rebuilt the transmission which fixed the whine for a while.

I didnt feel the engine knock was fixed though.

Well fast forward to this week and the whine/ knock was back along with an exhaust leak. Took it in for repair. They replaced some seals on catalatic converter. They this time clained the whine/ knock was normal and said to just bring it back if it gets worse like before...

So im at like 5 or 6 repair attempts. Lawyers involved. Filed suit back in December. Waiting to hear back in hopefully march or april at the latest.

I Personally would like to do a cash settlement but we will see what they offer

How many days have you had in the shop at this point? Seems they are really dragging their feet making you wait so many months. I’m hoping to hear from GM in next couple weeks about mine. Are you hoping for the cash settlement because you think it can be fixed and you’ll pocket the money or you will use the cash to make up lost value and get a new truck? I’m just not sure they will settle with enough cash to get me into a new truck compared to doing a full refund / lemon law buy back. I did see someone got $15k for a leaking  window on the long window leak thread.

Im around 20-25 days total shop days. And 5 repair attempts now.

I brought it brand new in may and only have 25k left to pay on it.

I purposefully bought the 100k warranty after my last truck had issues. I have a lift. Tires. Tint, etc. Wrapped up in this truck already so id much rather have a large check to pay it off vs. A buyback. Yeah its super hard finding info on exactly how much people are getting and my lawyer refused to even speculate. If i can get 20-25k cash and keep ill do that. Pay truck off. Have 100k warranty covering anything and this lawsuit if anything ever happens to engine or tranny to cover me. Makes most financial sense.

Id only do a buyback if they will recover all lost for me so tax title etc and let me keep the wheels/ tires. I dont think id do an actual new vehicle trade or whatever its called unless they allow me to design a sierra 1500 diesel of my dreams.

Im picky i know but i paid 55k+ for a brand new truck thats had engine and tranny issues along with a camera and now exhaust leak at 13k miles. Bit ridiculous

We have a bit of a different situation because I have many more days in the shop and a more obvious diagnosed problem (might be fixed, but things keep popping up with this truck). I totally feel for your situation, though. I was actually planning to do some mods on my truck too, but the problems started so early that I never had a chance to do any of them. Once you sink that much time and money into a vehicle, it's definitely harder to get away from it. I think there is a chance they have to reimburse you for add-ons to the truck (possibly if they were added within a certain timeframe from when you bought the vehicle), so check into that if you end up qualifying for lemon law buy back. That probably varies by state. At this point, I'm really hesitant to add anything or make changes because I don't want to throw money away on a truck that won't last or I will need to return / trade-in soon. So I'm basically in this holding pattern and feeling almost like it's a leased truck because I don't want to do anything to really "make it mine" due to the reliability.

I think I'll wait until I hear about an offer to decide what to do. I don't think I'm going to keep this truck long term, but I'm not sure if it makes sense to keep it until 2022 models arrive if I can get a good settlement. The issue with settlement I think is my truck has probably depreciated so much just because of the high initial cost, repair history, and a couple dealer add-ons (basically I paid a lot), it will have to be a big settlement to get to the point where it's equal to a buy back / refund. I'm not sure how big GM goes on the settlements. The other thing that makes me nervous about the cash settlement is what happens if it continues to have problems? I'll be under warranty still, but there is no way to just get away from the truck at that point (besides sell / trade-in assuming it can be repaired adequately).

Yeah definitely Diff situations for sure. Mines not as obvious unfortunately. The first time it was which warranted the rebuild. So if it gets bad again then itll be obvious again and they can replace the tranny.

No one seems to want to touch the engine knock issue.

For me the truck drives and functions fine for now tho I worry about long term. I unfortunately had all my work done at about 4k miles.

My thoughts are. If they give me at last 25k. It pays truck off. And 25k off basically means i got a brand new truck for 30ishk. So thats not bad. If i keep it till 100k miles then ditch it after warranty its a good deal.

Vs a buyback where ill get who knows how much then have to spend money on a truck and accessories again. Its not as good of a deal
