Black Friday Tonneau Deals?

Recommended Posts

Looking for deals on Tonneau covers.
No folding, no soft shell, must have locking.
Would like something comparable to the Retrax One XR (cheapest I have found is 1299).  Locking and side channels for attachments above the bed for bikes/skis, etc.
Does GM have anything going on?
If you see any good deals post them up please!

Update:
GM is running the 25% off MSRP.  They have the Embark LS Retractable Aluminum which is the same as the Retrax Pro XR with install at dealer for 1,650.35

However I do not see the Embark LS in poly on the GM website. Thats too bad, with 25% off I would snap that up in a heart beat.  Does anyone know if this can be ordered from the dealer in Poly?

I can get the Retrax One XR (Poly)  for 1299. But would have to install myself, which is fine, I just like having it all under warranty at the dealer if possible.

This appears to be what your looking for:

https://accessories.chevrolet.com/product/standard-bed-embark-ls-retractable-tonneau-cover-by-advantage-associated-accessories-19419843?vin=3GCUYGET3LG363107&categoryId=98027

It indicates polycarbonate construction in the description as well.  This one indicates standard bed as that's what my VIN pulled for available GM accessories for my truck.  Here is the Embark Aluminum I believe you were alluding to earlier:

https://accessories.chevrolet.com/product/standard-bed-embark-max-aluminum-retractable-tonneau-cover-by-advantage-–-associated-accessories-19416972?vin=3GCUYGET3LG363107

So, you are a big fan of the Embark LS with the poly construction??  I've been looking at multiple options for a retractable tonneau cover for my truck.  I was leaning towards a Gatortrax MX retractable tonneau cover until I saw your comment on the Embark LS.  If I can get one of those on Black Friday through GM for 25% off I might take a good look.

So both of those you posted are the aluminum covers.  The difference is the LS has the rail slot for Crossbar attachments, hence why its $100 more.
The poly version NON-LS is here for $1259:
https://accessories.chevrolet.com/product/standard-bed-embark-poly-retractable-tonneau-cover-by-advantage-associated-accessories-19416970?year=2020&make=Chevrolet&model=Silverado 1500&modelId=491&body=Crew Cab Pickup&bodyId=22&wheel=Standard Box&wheelId=652&trim=LT&trimId=430&drive=4WD&driveId=8&engine=3.0L L6 DIESEL&engineId=17881&bodyNumDoors=5&categoryId=98027

They do not appear to sell the LS in a poly.  I tried calling a couple dealers yesterday and never got through to an actual parts representative... surprise, surprise.

So do they have the description wrong on the Chevy/GM Accessories website wrong then??

I see Polycarbonate Construction but nothing indicating Aluminum in the description. From the link above:

MSRP $1,929.00*

  • Unique Trax Rail design allows for rack and accessory compatibility that offers enhanced hauling options (Thule Cross rails sold separately)
  • The rigid polycarbonate construction helps provide impact resistance and UV protection, and will hold up to 500 lbs. evenly distributed — easily supporting heavy loads
  • Sealed Ball Bearing Design which allows the cover to roll maintenance free without binding, and be key lockable in any position
  • Patented Flush Front Cover for a low profile appearance and minimizing water intrusion
  • Exposed stake pockets
  • UV treated to help with protection from sun
  • Kit includes, Tonneau cover, hardware and keys

Yes It appears to be the wrong description.  The Poly will only hold up to 200lbs.  Aluminum will hold 500.

So, are you not a fan of the Aluminum construction option or do you just like the price point of the Polycarbonate construction better? I was just wondering why your preferred the Poly option?

I love aluminum.  I just think its overkill for a cover.  I'm not going to be standing up on it and the poly will hold up to weather just fine.  My truck is parked in garage and gets taken out for mtn biking, snowmobiling, camping, basically play time or family trips etc.  Hard to justify extra $500 for aluminum when it doesn't really benefit my situation at all.

Understandable......Personally I like the Tri-Fold options so you can utilize the entire truck bed.  The problem is I can't find a Tri-Fold that allows it to be locked partially opened/closed.  So, when I put a dog crate in the back and have to fold it mostly open and then nothing is left protected.  Unless you are aware of any?  Being able to lock these covers anywhere along the rail is ideal

Al vs poly?

Aluminum will hold more, but if there is weight on it (someone stands/walks on for example) there is a good chance that the coating will get scratched.  If scratched thru the coating -- the al colour will show.

Poly isn't rated to hold as much.

If it does get scratched -- it's still black.

Had poly version on last truck.

Since GM decided to change the box sizes an new one is required.

Another poly is on the way.

I agree - even if I'm strapping bags on top, I don't think it would ever see 200lb of gear.

Besides, $500 goes a loooong way on the mtb...that's a nice rear wheel, custom suspension tune, used to be what you could get a new fork for!

Im looking at the Retrax One XR model that has the slot in the side rail to attach cross bars to put on extra storage bins, bike racks, skis, etc.  So i wont ever strap anything to the cover itself.
And like beauso79, the option to slide and lock is important to me.

Ive been waiting on Retrax to get a black friday deal out, every other tonneau cover company has 15-30% off.  Id do the 25% off from GM in a heartbeat if it was the right version.  Hopefully Retrax announces something today...

And within seconds of posting, Retrax announces 15% off sitewide.

On the retrax site with 15% and taxes it came to 1,275.38

I went to https://tonneaucovered.com/ and called them.  $1169 free shipping, no tax. Placed my order.  Retrax One XR, 6'7" standard bed.

The standard embark poly from GMC with the 25% off and tax would have been $1035.  Feel like I did pretty well. since the xr is usually $100 over the standard poly I would have only saved $34 had I been able to get it through GMC.

Good luck and happy shopping guys!

Ideally I wouldn't either, but it would be easy to add a couple strap points on the rail and strap across/etc without incurring the $500 expense of getting crossbars, basket, etc setup and having to deal with storage when not in use. I have a THULE rooftop bag that would be perfect to toss on top and strap to the rails.  A bit unrefined, I know...lol.

@phatty  - if you're ever interested in a KNOLLY, let me know, I can get you hooked up!PXL_20201119_211812427.thumb.jpg.5294a6172ebcf7e7148be61feb543551.jpg
