Fuel Gauge Reading

Recommended Posts

On my 2020 RST 3.0 CCSB, the fuel gauge seems to be inaccurate. Consistently since I've had the truck (4 weeks) the truck will take between 12-14 gallons of fuel when the gauge shows 5/8 to 3/4 of a tank left. Am I wrong to think that I have a 24-gallon tank? I don't usually let the truck get below 1/2 tank on the gauge before filling up, but in the event that I try to get the max miles out of a tank I don't want to run it empty.

I have had GM gas gauges in the past that weren't very accurate.  Sometimes they wouldn't move much then would drop a lot at once (sometimes staying near full or near 1/2).

My 2020 seems to be fairly accurate and moves as I would expect.

What does your truck take for fuel at 1/4 full?

2wd crew short box 22 gal

4wd crew short box 24 gal

4wd crew standard bed 24 gal

I never know if CCSB means Crew Short Bed, or Crew Standard Bed....

and couldn't decipher if it was 2wd/4wd

My 2016 Colorado that I had before this was pretty accurate.

I've not had it on the gauge that low. I am not a fan of getting below 1/2 tank.

Sorry, Crew Cab Short Bed 4wd. That's why I said 24 gallons.

Completely understand not wanting to get down too low.  I was just curious as most of the inaccurate gauges I had in the past would be right at 1/4.

Why would the 2wd CCSB have a 22 gallon tank and not 24?

I don't know the reason, but It's only on the diesel that it is 22.

The DC 2wd diesel is also 22, and the other gas and diesel DC's are 24.

And just for fun, the regular cab gas  has a 28 gal tank.  Reg cab is not available with 3.0 or 6.2 (and the 5.3 it gets is the AFM version, not the DFM version)
