2020 GMC Sierra 1500 won't start

Recommended Posts

2020 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT  X-31 Off Road.  Bought this new in December 2019,  Nov 5th 2020 I was at a location a short distance from home. Got into the truck, put foot on brake and push the start button-nothing

not any sound, no instrument panel lights. Tried several times, still nothing. I got out and tried with the remote start. It started but when I got inside and pushed the start button still got nothing. The engine was

running but I could not shift out of park or unlock the steering wheel. Started several times with the remote but still could not unlock shift or steering. Then after a few tries I could not do anything even with the remote fob, could not lock or unlock doors, tailgate would not open even with the push button. I had my wife bring the spare remote and it did not work either. After several hours with roadside assistance and tow truck services who two did not want to tow the vehicle (in park with front wheels turned and steer locked)  a third tow truck arrive after almost 5 hours ( by now 10 P.M.)  I explained the problem to him and he agreed to tow it. When I opened the driver door all lights came on as when normal. I tried the push button start and it started and was able to drive home. The next day at the dealership the tech found some communication faults and cleared them but said he could not duplicate

the problem. Of course not, truck is 10 months old and have had this happen once.   Not a lot of confidence in going on our many long trips.  Asked the service advisor if the shift  and steering locks can be over-ridden if this

happens again and he did not know.

Update: No problems starting until Dec 16th when I got in to my truck and put my foot on the brake and pushed the start button. Nothing.  In the information screen it showed "Remote learn pending Please wait". I had an appointment that I needed to get to so I took our car. When I came back a couple of hour later the truck started. The next morning I drove to the dealership and told them what happened. I got a loaner and came home. the dealership called and I picked up my truck on De. 21. they said they reprogramed two control modules. Two days later I went to a grocery store and when I got back in the same thing happened, pushed the start button and nothing. Tried several times with no success. The engine started with the remote but again I could not shift out of park or unlock the steering. Called roadside assistance and a tow truck was sent.  Just when the tow truck arrived about an hour later the truck started and everything was working. I had a message that said Service Theft Deterent system. I drove to the dealership and the message stayed on until I got there. I got another loaner and came home. Was asked to take my spare remote to them later so they could reprogram some things. I got the truck back the following week and everything worked fine until Jan 12th when my truck would not start again at my home. Push the start button and nothing. Again I took our car and ran some errands and when I got home and tried the truck it started. This time its showed the remote learn pending please wait message and the check engine light came on.  I drove back to the dealership and got another loaner. It's been at the dealer 4 days now with no word and it's now Friday so I know I won't hear anything until at least Monday. I have spoken to my service advisor and the Service manager plus the salesperson that I usually deal with and expressed my displeasure and lack of confidence in my truck. I have purchased 6 vehicles here in 8 years, two Buick cars and 4 GMC trucks plus all of the service on each vehicle is done there. I really think that they are trying to fix the problem, they just don't know the exact cause. GM needs to step up and find a fix.  I have had the truck for one year on Dec. 23 and it now has 20,000 miles. The problem did not start until the truck was a little over 10 months old with about 17,000 miles.
