245/75r17 on 2020 WT are just too small

Recommended Posts

Hi all, new here.  HELP me pls. I would like to install 35x12.5R22 with  -18 offset wheels on to my 2020 Silverado 2500hd WT.  Stock wheels are just too small 245/75r17. already have 2-3'' rough country lift kit on. my concern is power loss, will it be felt? already know that speedometer will be off by a lot. do i have to change gears?

This question gets asked a dozen times a month.

Yes you will feel it.

Changing gears can restore 'feel'.

No changing gears will not restore efficiency.

It will consume power

It will consume fuel

It will accelerate wear

Theres plenty of people here running the wheel/tire combo you're wanting to run, so I doubt theres much of an issue there. As for the speedo being "off by a lot"...I just added 37's to my truck and the speedo is off a whopping 2mph

Weigh a factory 17in rim and then weigh a 35X12.5 on a 22in rim and tell me what you think will be felt.

I bet you are adding 50-60lbs per corner.

Physics is not everyone's suit worn long.

Maybe they should try an exercise. Put a tennis ball on a three foot rope and swing it above your head. Repeat with a 30 pound medicine ball then ask yourself the same question.

Yea, you. Read the above. Then give it a whirl. I'll wait for ya to get back to me on that.

I don't care if it added 200# per corner, i'm going to put on the wheel/tire combo that I think looks the best and suits my needs. If it wears out a suspension part or brakes prematurely due to added weight, big deal, i'll replace it. One of the OP's concerns was re-gearing and the speedo being off. I was simply telling him that it won't be "off a lot". And i've had enough trucks in my lifetime to know that the OP will feel little to no difference in power, especially when only going to a 35" tire.

But hey, you're more than welcome to keep your physics and your papaw looking 17" factory wheels and tires on your truck.

AY-MEN, BROTHER.

The gasser might have a bigger issue with heavier wheels/tires but our Diesels don.t. So there.

Also worth noting that my stock 20" wheels and tires were not significantly lighter or heavier than my new setup. So I never noticed ONE difference at all.  Obviously different for a WT stock setup.

Run 35’s and 20x10’s took off the 275’s and 18’s. Some difference in power and gear but it is minimal, gas mileage remained the same and it actually rides nice. You will need to trim though to run the so you want, otherwise you will get rubbing on the inside even with the lift
