Yea didn't realize you were that far away, perhaps they could maybe call over to a local dealer so they don't give you the common "sounds good to me" line. Send that video link to your contact from the dealer you purchased the truck from and have them to do the work to get the service you deserve and need. You captured the sound pretty good in that link so i can't imagine them saying it is normal, it nearly sounds as if you have an actual gear driven timing chain or as you said it sounds like a supercharger whine almost, no way imo is it common. Have them pull a new truck off their lot or multiple and i bet none of them have a whine that loud or at all.

In anycase good luck and i hope you can get some satisfaction here.

Yeah im headed to another dealer her in town first. If they say its normal im going to tell them to bring another truck over to listen to then.

If not ill be home for a few weeks in Dec and ill take it up to my buddies shop

Update 11-13-2020 330pm

So went to dealership #3 (which is important cause you have to go to 3 dealers before starting lemon law process). Anyways this 3rd dealer was 100x better and more competent it seemed just in my interaction. Pulled up and someone came up to help (their setup is all outside weirdly enough). When i pulled in the knocking was louder than ive ever heard. I could hear it sitting in the truck and it whined as i pulled in. So i left the truck running. Someone came to help and i explained the issue and the sound. He said wow yeah thats not normal at all. He acknowledged the sound and said he hears the whining and the knock. Which is good.

Explained how it just started etc. And everything else. Explained how its only once warmed up. He said yeah it definitely sounds not normal.

So got all checked in. They are getting me a comped rental car.

Said it would probably be Monday before they look at it though.

I talked to him a bit about the trucks and if hes heard any issue and he said no hes never heard of it being normal for these trucks to make noise. He also said that since its under warranty its best to bring it in and have it looked at. He said its all covered so why not take it seriously? So far so good.

Though im hesitate to get excited as I feel they may eventually come back saying its normal too. Which point i will then show up and tell them to go get a new truck off the lot and compare them cause its not normal. Of course they didnt have any silverado for me to drive to compare but a few months ago i had a loaner silverado and never heard these noises.

I've learned through experience that if you want something fixed, diagnose the problem yourself. Then roll into a dealership and tell them to fix this ****** via the tsb I have right here. The majority of dealership's just don't give a ******, and a lot of the time they just don't want to deal with the work involved (if it's a smaller shop).

GM is very good at knowing all the ****** that could or will go wrong in their trucks. Spend time and search through all the tsb's for T1's.

And yes, your truck should have the updated transmission fluid. But I've read the fluid is only a temporary fix. Eventually you'll have to flush it. Unless the new trans has something different in them, other then the torque converter.

Unfortunately in my experience you are correct. When im home im really tempted to have my dads good friend see the truck who works in vehicles and semis. Hes real good. Maybe if he actually diagnosis a problem then i have ammo for them.

Dealers absolutely suck tho Unfortunately

11-17-2020 4pm update

Called up and spoke the the service tech guy who helped me out. Just asked for a general update cause it had been 2 days. He said that he hasnt heard anything official yet. Said he has seen the truck up and off the lift a few times today along with seeing them pull a few different trucks up next to it to compare the sound. He said he thought they mentioned it could be the transmission but he wasn't sure and they weren't either. Said they were still diagnosing the sound. Said it would take a while to diagnose but either way its all under warranty.

So a positive update while not really having an update I guess.

I can absolutely see how the whine could be tranny/ torque convertor. The knock im not convinced but not getting my hopes up either way yet. Whether that be them actually fixing it/ finding an issue or that be them ignoring it.

I will continue to update this not only for the forums so if anyone else can have info if this happens to theirs but for my sake if i go to lemon law or whatever ill have actually documentation. Times and words of what they said.

Funny enough now that this is an issue i keep seeing numerous tiktok videos of new sierra/ silverados with engine noises. Just saw one last night brand new sierra on the lot with a knock about 4 times louder than mine

Just documenting for my own personal use.

But im headed outta town till Monday night so ill call monday for an update. No sense in calling before then since i wont even be able to get it or do anything if its done.

So currently today we are at 3 repair attempts and day #7 of being serviced.

Been thinking alot IF im lucky enough to get offered a trade allowance i will only do it if theyll let me build a 2020/21 Sierra 2500 exactly how i want and have it basic take over my current payments. Essentially exchange trucks. Otherwise im going to push for a full purchase buyback.

If the trucks fixed fixed i will be happy to keep it since ive got money into it and it is a beautiful truck. But if it has anymore issues I'm probs cutting my loss or if they dont 1000% fix the issue (whatever it is).

Swung by the dealer today to get my toll pass outta the truck. So talked to the tech guy today for an update too.

They still have no idea what's wrong with it. They are thinking it could be the torque convertor but they arent sure. I see that causing the whinning noise but not the engine knock. ?‍♂️

He said he would call me later about an update from the foreman on a timeline. I called him and asked about a buyback... he said he's not sure but since they don't know its the engine yet and they don't know what the issue is he cant say... of course he said i could trade it in though...

Does anyone know if i can reach out to GM myself about the buyback? I sincerely worry about the longevity of the engine/ tranny depending on what they replace. I bought this specific truck and knew this was what i wanted knowing i would keep it till it dies at hopefully 200k+ miles.

After all is said an done im sincerely considering trading it in or selling it and getting something different. These new ecodiesels really are peaking my interest

Im am sorry to hear about all your trouble but I would be surprised if GM would offer you a buy back. Their only responsibility is to fix your truck if they determine if you have a problem.

Hopefully a little encouragement for you, I went through some problems with my 18 LTZ and after a while they got things fixed (multiple trips to dealer) and the truck ran great for the next 80K miles, then I traded it in on my 19 LTZ.

I had my 2016 truck bought back. It was In the shop for about 4 months. I had the “Chevy Shake”. I also called GM customer service every 2 days to keep them updated on my truck. (Get a claim number also while in the phone) Along with talking to the dealerships general manager and head service manager every 2 days. EVERYONE there needs to know your frustration. It’s also good to go in there when they are very busy, be professional about it, but also LET THEM know and everyone else there know your issue and that they can’t fix it.  You wanna see service men get nervous when customers are standing there and they look incompetent!!!  $h!t gets done.
They ended up bringing lead tech up from Texas to try and fix the truck.  Didn’t happen. So they bought the truck back and I got into a 2017 truck with more options no miles, for $4000 but GM threw in $2500 headrest DVDs for the kiddos.
I know it sucks, but just stay calm, try to relax, and realize it will get taken care of in some way. But always, always contact all the 3 people I mentioned up there and STAY on them.  They need to know your frustration and that it’s YOUR money not there’s that bought the truck

Good luck and take care

I appear to have the same exact whine.  Don't believe there is a knock, however.  Will have to get underneath to see for sure though.  Was thinking it could be power steering fluid pump, but learned that my truck ('16 Burb) is electronic PS.  So now I'm thinking it could be the idler pulley as per this video:

Any thoughts?

Yes. The trade difference was $4000. So considering I got into a truck that had the 8spd, premium plus package, so all the safety features available for 2017, Z71 package, plus DVDs. I thought I got a heck of a deal.  Just try and go and trade 1 year up and I bet it’s a good $8 to $10k difference in price especially when you trade a SLT to SLT premium plus package.  Or a LT to a fully loaded LTZ.  Or a custom Trailboss to an LT Trailboss.  Anyway you look at it. GM treated me right and that’s why I have had 3 trucks since then.
You’re welcome on the info.

Ah okay that makes sense for sure. Thats a solid deal then

Im definitely nervous to see what happens. The dealer im at now seem pretty good so im hopeful but we will see. Definitely sucks not having my truck and having no end date.

This is my 2nd silverado 2015-2020

Little confused based on the YouTube video you posted lol.

But it should be noted i have a 2020 and you have a 2016 which are different powertrains.

My whine started lets say on a Wednesday. Knock on saturday (only heard from under truck) and then the knock (due to driving to numerous dealerships) about a week later was loud enough to hear standing next to truck.
