VIDEO- Engine/ tranny? Whine and knock ?‍♂️

Recommended Posts

Figured id lost this up here. Going to take in tomorrow night when I get home from this trip.

2020 Silverado Trailboss LT 5.3L 4x4 10k miles

So a few days ago i noticed a small hardly noticable whine. Didnt think much of it. So now im up in the mountains on vacation and the whine has gotten increasingly worse and now i have a knock (will post video).

The whine is heard from inside vehicle (only with windows down tho). The whine gets louder when you push the gas too.

The knock was only heard when i crawled under the truck to see where the whine was coming from. It appears as youll see from the video to come from where the oil plug/ filter is located. I cant isolate it.

I do not see any leaks anywhere. The plug appears to be dry/ no old oil around it. The filter itself is black but i dont see any oil drippings over the stickers on it. Imma check the oil here in a bit once it cools off.

Anyone experienced this? Im really hoping i dont end up with a bad motor/ tranny. Ive heard when you do they just warranty the truck back?

Video is not working

Works for me....

Doesn't sound right to me,

but I find that video/audio of this type is often misleading.

Is it an engine knock, or is it just because of the microphone location used?

I'm interested in hearing the diagnosis.

Definitely a knock. O hear it with my ears

Sorry. Wasn't intending to suggest it's not, just that it's hard to help diagnose from a video/audio taken from a location that many/most probably aren't used to listening from.  (as opposed many being used to listening from beside vehicle, or while looking at engine from above with hood open, or....)

Were you able to take it in Monday as expected?

No worries I know what you mean. Videos are hard to tell for sure. But having been under the truck a few times definitely a new noise. Its heard standing beside it too but hard to capture.

Also I have this posted over here too. Just not sure how to merge them or delete this one?

Update on my question. My 2020 5.3 was making the same whine as in the video. Sounded like possobly underneath the truck. Just left the dealer where they replaced the ideler pully and the problem is resolved. Said they have replaced a bunch of the pullys. Just FYI if your is doing the same thing. I did not sound lik the front of the engine, it sounded internal.
