I have a 2017 Chevy Silverado I'm putting remote start in it all the wiring is from the dealer I noticed that the latch in my truck now has all of the same wiring on it it appears do I have to change that latch with the one that I get with the kit

Might help the forum to know what "kit" your referring to. Is this a GM kit? or an aftermarket kit? My '17 Silverado, with factory remote start, had a sensor in the hood latch to tell the ECU that the hood is closed, as it will not "remote start" unless certain parameters are met; I.e. doors are locked, etc. It probably needs a signal telling it that the hood is closed to start. Just a guess on my part. Does the current hood latch have the same sensor as the new one? If it does, you may not need to change it.

check out this video. retrofit remote start

Here's another video that says you don't need the new latch   remote start

This is the kit I bought from it it is off of eBay but it is factory equipment 22997089 Complete Remote Start Kit for 2014 - 2018 Silverado or Sierra 1500 OEM The main thing I don't understand is that it has wiring harness going to the  the original hood latch already And I don't know if I just leave that one there and tape it off

I think you need to watch the 2nd video.

The kit fits all 2014-18 trucks but the 17 & 18's don't use the hood latch in the kit as they already have the hood closed sensor installed.  The 14 thru 16 trucks did not have that sensor if not factory equipped.  On my 2018 Custom, all I had to do was give the new key fob's and the activation card to my dealer so they could program it to work!
