2019 GMC Sierra 1500 BOUNCEY

Recommended Posts

When going over speed bumps especially, but really any bump, the front bouncing like crazy. It feels like I'm in my granddad's old 1973 Cadillac Eldorado. Not what I was expecting when I bought my truck. This is my 5th GMC truck since 1994, far more bounce than ever experienced. Is there a simple fix like installing aftermarket shocks? This thing drives awesome going down the highway or streets, I love the ride, don't want to change it. Just wondering if and what kind of shocks would give me what I'm looking for???

I went to Bilstein shock and struts and it made a huge difference. A tiny bit stiffer but I like them a lot.  Rides great now.

I haven't had to have the fronts switched out.  I have the struts, but haven't had time to get it to a shop.  I too swapped to the Bilstein 5100's.  The rears are in and it is night and day difference.  Drives like a charm now.

I'm considering the Blistens after seeing such great reviews. I like the way my truck rides except for the bouncy rear end over bigger bumps and thresholds. How much do these run? And is it a labor intensive job to DIY? I've never messed with shocks before.

Is it worth it to do all four? Or should just the rears be plenty?

I want to do the front since that is still bouncy, but the rears make a huge improvement.  It takes 15-20 minutes to swap out yourself.  It's DIY, and you don't need a jack.  Just pull the old ones one side at a time and replace with the new ones.  It's $94 per shock from shockwarehouse.com and free shipping

I had 5100s on my 2009 Silverado and they were night and day difference.  I will want to put them on my 2020 soon.

The bouncing is pretty annoying.  If it makes that much difference in the rear I might pull the trigger on those.

I want to get the Bilstein 5100's in the rear and 6112's in the front of my Trail Boss and keep the same ride height (with rake). But I haven't heard of anyone doing that before. Bilstein's website shows that the 6112 is available for a 2020 LT Trail Boss for the front. I just don't want to have to deal with replacing UCAs and I really like the height the truck is at now.
