Mobil1 new oil filter?

What oil are you using? Amsoil? Then I agree with the extended OCI's.

Both cars are dealer serviced through warranty periods. Toyota still is with Toyota oil and their service schedule. The Hyundai through the warranty period the same for the first 10 years. The third user, my grandson uses a family owned quick lube. My vehicles get Amsoil and extended after warranty periods. My Avalanche and my wife’s recently off the warranty period at 10 years old Genesis. The Acura intagra type r at 20 years old only dealer service. For documenting. It going to collector auction soon.

Same here, loved that engine, used to delivery pizzas in it, drive it across country and run it at the drags, most consistent car I ever ran, LOL.

We had several. Everyone was a problem. We had 3 6.5s. Yes we gave them one more chance. They had problems with injection pumps, all 3. I had a dodge with the Cummings. In two years everyone was driving a dodge. I was the only one who went back to Chevy trucks in 2001. My mother still drives an 2000 ford 7.3 one ton. She’s 81. My father until last year he was driving a 98 Ram diesel. He passed in March at 83. You couldn’t pry those trucks from them. And they could drive anything. Now everyone at our shop drives Rams. Even the service trucks are Rams. I will only buy clean old Chevys. But only Chevy.

Yep, we went through 3 injector pumps, last one at about 150K before we gave the car away, it was an '81 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham.  It had a 3-speed with 2.29 gears and I wanted to put a 200R4 with a 3.42 gear set but the Buicks and the shop was consuming all of my time and we let that and another favorite go, an '80 Olds 88 with a Rocket 350.  Also loved the 7.3 in our '88 F-SuperDuty, was rated for 33,000 pounds and topped out at 60-65 mph with a 5-speed ZF manual and 5.13 gears in a Dana 80.  Fun truck with a double sleeper.

My wife had an Oldsmobile station wagon. Every weekend I had to do something to it. At 40K mileage I finally had enough and gave it to my brother. He put a gas engine in it. If memory serves he had too change the converter too. My father had a olds sedan. It got converted too. My wife bought an olds starfire next. That one was a nightmare too. But that’s another story.

Yes, a lot of folks had troubles with them, we fired this one up, let it idle and warm up, idled it down to cool off, it just ran and ran, loved the dual exhaust it had.  The Cutlass with the diesel also got the rally dash with an actual tach and gauges.  At the time, the GM mechanic friends of mine said most of them blew up because people revved the motors too high, driving them like gasoline engines.  I didn't start beating on ours until it had about 80K or so, then would take it to the drag strip but let it shift automatically.  I remember it getting 24 MPG while delivering pizzas, idling all night and 35 mpg on the highway, could drive from Fort Lauderdale to Tallahassee with fuel to spare.  Our gas powered G-Bodies had 18.1 gallon fuel tanks but if memory serves, this one was 19, think it was same tank with different baffling, don't remember anymore.  

Many of the features introduced on those diesels carried over to the Buick GNs, GNX and even our trucks such as the engine oil cooler being built into the radiator.

So I have done quite a bit of google research since I started this thread....and took the suggestions that each of you had input on and what I have found is that there are a good solid handful or more of quality filters that are good...but if true filtration is what you are after, the Purlator ONE (NOT THE BOSS, which is the higher end model...is does not filter as good) is the best filter for filtration...

 

what i am not going to debate is failure rate and all the other potential things that come with filters (oil pressure drop, etc.)  for filtration Purlator ONE is the 'best'...and yes someone mentioned this, i want to be clear i was an unbiased researcher...

 

there are plenty quality filters that are still really good...some might sacrifice fitration for flow rate...or have a different focus - for example, a off road vehicle that gets the engine rebuilt every 10k miles doesnt need the best filtration, but does probably need good filtration but high flow is more important...i felt that K&N was in that category (although there are some claims that is just another filter with K&N logo on it)...

 

anyway...my next filter i am going to buy is a Purlator ONE...thanks for all the discussion...and by all means, please tell me why i'm wrong! ?

when I install the Purolator, I will let you know if I have any drop in oil pressure...but like I said, Amsoil does NOT filter as well as the Purolator one...that doesn't mean it is a bad filter nor am I saying it is...I am just stating facts...based on my research...and I am saying the Amsoil does NOT filter as well as the Purolator...

when I install the Purolator, I will let you know if I have any drop in oil pressure...but like I said, Amsoil does NOT filter as well as the Purolator one...that doesn't mean it is a bad filter nor am I saying it is...I am just stating facts...based on my research...and I am saying the Amsoil does NOT filter as well as the Purolator...
 

Can you please post your findings on this? I’d like to know because there’s definitely a big difference of flow rate at a percentage fill. I spoke with Amsoil and they stated it’s 20 microns all the way from start to end with 20 microns at 98% full at 98% flow rate. I too am interested.

combination of many sites...but you actually answered your own question...as Purolator One has 99% at 20 micros...so as i said, purolator has more filtration...again, i did not focus on flow rate, only filtration....and to repeat...i am not claiming Amsoil (or any other premium filter) is a poor filter...is 1% filtration difference noticeable?  who knows...
