Mobil1 new oil filter?

Go to change my oil this morning and notice the new oil filter is significantly smaller than the one I had on hand... I’m sure it is a cost cutting measure, but does the smaller filter limit or perform as good as the larger?  Anyone have noticed the same thing?

This filter gets it's extra mileage by increasing the particle size passing to 30 micron at 99%. (read the fine print on the box) Doing this allows less media to be used as it traps less over the same mileage. There are cheaper filters that filter finer.

If you don’t mind paying $15 for what IMHO the best, look at Amsoil oil filters, outstanding industry leading with up to 25k mile rating. Staying closer to the $10 price range, Wix XP and Napa Gold have very good filters and reviews as well.

So the new design is worse... should I switch?

I have relied on and trusted Mobil1 for years... this is for sure disappointing... I change my filter every time I change my oil (might be wasting money??‍♂️) ... I’ll check into the others.  Thanks!

I used to use them too, not knowing it was money wasted until I found out about the differences in filtration. Also, “Full Synthetic” is not 100% synthetic, more misleading marketing. I also switched to Amsoil cause it’s real 100% Synthetic. Lots out there to choose from, get what works best for your requirements and budget, good luck!

Thank you!  It is rarely that clean though! Hahaha!

It’s VERY tastefully done, congrats. How do you like having the camper on the back, been thinking about having one installed, would like to hear more of plus and negative. Thanks

Thank you.  I originally had a cover, liked it a lot... then for my wife’s business I needed to have more storage space... so this the camper... I actually didn’t want it as first... but it is SO convenient for hunting season and just keeping things back there without having to worry about them... I’m not sure I could go back to not having one... the only con I have really found was if you move a bunch of stuff that is taller, like furniture or something... there is a slight visibility loss, but no worse than a Yukon XL... worth it to me!  (I also installed led strip lights around the top perimeter inside so it lights up really well)

That’s great cause I’m looking at adding one on my truck for hunting too. I’ve got a few high end AR’s that I’m going to have fix placements for them and most likely shoot from inside the back. Thank you and good luck figuring out your filter situation, always here to help.

Kids like the ‘disco’ version... I like rem he green version... deer can’t see it... not sure what you’re hunting, but don’t think hogs can see green either...?.  (Don’t mind the feathers haven’t cleaned out since we went dove hunting)

Purolator PL22500 has a beta of 75 at 5 micron. 99.9% at 20u. That's a beta ratio of 1000.

I don't know of a better filter. Shop around. You can find them on line for under $10

Alternate  Purolator PBL22500 is $2 more. Same beta, a bit more area so last a bit longer.

Second choice Royal Purple 20-500 beta 75 at 20 micron. Cost $14-$17

Third choice AMSOIL Ea O17. has a beta of 75 at 20 micron. Cost @ $20

The difference between Royal Purple and AMSOIL is price.

If I were stranded on a desert island and for one oil change was forced to make a fourth choice WIX 57502/NAPA Gold 7502

Dog and cat catcher but has the right bypass valve and solid construction. beta of 20 at 20 micron.

Oddly WIX and PUROLATOR are made by the same parent company. Mann+Hummel

https://www.mann-hummel.com/en/areas-of-expertise/product-brands/

People will trash them all. But I buy a filter to filter. I've never had an issue with any of these filters breaking down or leaking or any other complaint people and YouTubers whine about.

Umm.. why would you NOT change your filter every time you changed your oil?  They are ALWAYS supposed to be changed together.
