I work for a Chevrolet dealer doing dealer trades, so I drive a lot of different vehicles and know which options I like. I have noticed some silverado's seem to be quicker that others, they all have same 5.3 engine, 8 speed trans and 3.23 rear ratio. All are crew or double cabs, standard or short beds. the only difference is some have Z71 package and others just 4 x 4. Anybody h ave any ideas what the difference might be? Thanks Robert

Are you sure they are all 8 Speeds?  There are 3 variations with the 5.3 and most people don't know how to identify them:

5.3 with a 6 Speed

5.3 with an 8 Speed

5.3 with a 10 Speed

Each will perform dramatically different with the most noticeable difference being between the 6 speed and 8 speed.

My new Silverado 1500 Custom is pretty quick as it has the 6L80 with the 3.73 gear.. Pulled several trailer loads of dirt in excess of 8000 lbs. in a 14 ft dump trailer last weekend and it performed very well.. trailer weight plus load = 10,500-11,000.

I bought this truck to replace a 2006 1500HD and so far I am satisfied with the work performance..

Being involved in a family business most of my life. We’d often would buy several vehicles at a time. Usually identical. This started back with elcaminos then rancheros in the seventies. SSs and Gts. Then diesel trucks in the 80s-90s. They never were equal in performance. Yes we’d line them up. After the nighties we pretty much quit buying like that. I went Chevy two went dodge some Fords. We would still line up. Chevy usually won. Not counting diesels. That’s a different story.
