Brakes Squeaking @ 10K

Recommended Posts

I submitted the repair request (My 3rd one I think, maybe 4th now) and GM said sorry I am now out of warranty and refused to cover it with the dealer. Mind you, they have already replaced my brakes MULTIPLE times under warranty following each TSB and update and it did not solve the issue. This new find is the last chance and they say, sorry, we know your brakes are still 98% but we are not covering it. I have had enough of GM. First my Front Differential blows up TWO times and brakes have multiple fixes and still suck and I am told to just deal with it? I don’t think so bozos.

I would urge you to read my post above.

So now you'll jump ship over a $100 set of pads?

Seems cheaper to do that than replace the truck. Get mad all you want at GM for not doing more but the cheap fix is still an option.

I agree. If you can't live with it then change the pads to another brand and maybe change rotors too.

The Brembo brakes on my sports cars always squealed. The only fix was to buy softer pads. But the softer pads will fade at a lower temperature. Which means they are less likely to stop you in time at triple digit speeds.

In other words, if you go with softer pads to get rid of the squeal then your brakes may fail on you when towing 25,000# going downhill when the squealing pads would not have failed.

I was always told that quiet brakes are not as efficient as brakes that squeal. Pick your poison.

Edit: That may be why the issue persists after warranty replacement. Because GM is not going to put pads on a truck that will fail when operating at the stated limits just because they are quiet. Because then people would be cursing them for that too. If you don't intend to operate your vehicle anywhere near the limits then maybe you can install softer pads and not have to live with the squeal.

I took my truck to a different dealer and reported the steering column issue and squeaking brakes with 36k miles on my truck. They fixed it under warranty no questions asked.

Maybe just take it to another shop and try. I get a squeak on the pads every now and then but its what I consider normal.

I don't know if I'm the only one that has experienced this but I was starting to get squeaky breaks at 6000 km and they felt weak .  I looked at the week break problem and found that if you pump them when you start the truck 3 times (only need to do this once) that that it would help with that. It did and the brakes felt strong again and after about 3 month of driving with the brakes working better and feeling like they should, the squeaking has gone away at slow speed. I'm not sure if this is related or not.

I had mine replaced under warranty a few thousand miles ago and I am now almost to 10k total mileage and they are awful again. I had mine at the dealer last week and they said they aren't replacing them under the TSB/warranty again... Pretty disappointed.

Just Had mine replaced at 23003 miles. I have always noticed the weak pedal feel since owning the truck. I will say the pedal feel is much improved now. Not sure why, but I'll take it.
