Brakes Squeaking @ 10K

Recommended Posts

So just got home from picking up my truck... I gave them the TSB and they said i had the correct pads on. They kept telling me the squeaking and humming is normal and they can't do anything because 1. I'm over the 7500 miles to do the TSB and 2. I have the correct pads... The supervisor said he has a 2500 that does the same and he just lives with it..... i have never had a vehicle that does this and it be normal.... I even showed the service advisor my video and she said that is pretty loud.. UGH...

Does it go away after the brakes warm up?

No. It’s intermittent also. It happens the most when coming to a stop at low speeds <10mph and it always happens in a drive thru.

I picked my truck up this afternoon.

I have a copy of the TSB that I will upload tomorrow with pictures of the pads.

So far no squeaking...

As per KuiMonster’s post, my problems were intermittent but they never made noise when I was stopping from a speed more than 35 miles an hour or if I applied the brakes firmly.

Always

They replaced my truck’s brakes because since we bought it in Sept 2019 (It’s a 2020 2500HD), it has squealed coming to stops. Well now it sounds like a DUMP TRUCK when coming to a stop. I took it back in and they said sorry, no fix no change so just live with it now.

The new pads are not squeaking for me.

I have put about 600 miles on them so far.

A lot of the miles have been towing and I apply more pressure to stop (the noise seemed to be worse with slow easy stops for me).

Where's the copy of the TSB? I'm sure plenty of us here could use that info.

I’m at ~18,000 miles - anybody know if they limit the miles for the TSB?

It’s 7,500 miles the dealer told me. But if my pads were the wrong ones they would change it even tho I had 9,500 miles. Good luck. My dealer sucks. 2* for a reason.

Hi,

I looked up my invoice.

The new pad part numbers are:

84702753 (S) Pad Kit
84571661 (S) Pad Kit

I have a long gravel driveway and my brakes will still squeal for the first stop or two but it’s much better than previously.

It sounds as though every dealer is "handling" this differently.  Mine tried to say a TSB doesn't mean that it's covered, only that they are going to get bum-rushed with the issue.  I called BS on that!  The next excuse was the wear parts only carry a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty and if it's not a recall, the warranty language kicks in.  I just decided to pull the "loyalty" card on them and mention the 3 GMC Sierras, and 2 Cadillacs that we have purchased there and that I will just take my business elsewhere from here on out.  Long-story-short, the service manager "pulled some strings" with the factory and they covered it.  I have new pads on all four corners, rotors where not glazed, and only time will tell.

Had the pads replaced per the TSB this morning - DRW with 8,100 miles, but I reported the issue a few weeks back. My dealer service adviser team is great, though, and they always take care of me.

Question: My break pad monitor now just shows "----" for the front, and still at 96% for the rear.  I tried to reset in the DIC, but it would not do anything. I only have 15 miles on them from dealer to home.  Will this correct itself with some miles, or did they not do something right? Per the manual and the DIC, it has a menu where you can tell it "replaced front pads" and/or "replaced rear pads." Mine doesn't do anything when I press the thumb wheel.

check to see if they plugged the sensor back in. It is only on the driver side

Nailed it. Plug was on, but not snapped all the way. Oddly, the truck still will not let me reset the sensors in the DIC - still at 96% as they were when I brought it in. Not a big deal, but annoying nonetheless.
