Sierra HD Tailgate Dent

Recommended Posts

I need HELP. Just got a dent on my 3 months old truck. I dented the tailgate. It's too expensive to repair so I need something to cover it. I looked everywhere online and couldn't find anything. I found this tailgate cap for the Silverado. I would love to get something like this. Does anyone know of one for the Sierra HD? Or any mods to cover up the dent?

have you looked into PDR (paintless dent repair)? that should be fixable by those methods. I bet that is accessible from inside the gate or by removing the top trim piece

i am taking mine in tomorrow for a few little dimples around the emblem. we will see if they can fix those. they look pretty difficult to get to.

The item pictured above would never work with the multi-pro tailgate.

You are correct. I knew that, that's the reason why I came on here to ask if anyone knows if there's something like this that would work for my truck.

Would agree with checking into a paintless dent repair or some reputable privately owned body shops.  Possible it may be less than you are expecting.  Might find a good body shop that is slow.  Got a quote on our 08 durango I thought would be in the $750 up range.  Need to cut out bubbled/rusted metal under the gas filler spout and weld in new metal, rust preventative, full repair painted back to match.  Quote was $450.  Your tailgate looks like a lot less work involved.

Biggest problem with covering it up in my opinion would be if the paint chipped underneath and it ended up rusting.  You would never know it, and the problem might be a much bigger issue down the road.

No Idea how I did it, but my 2020 Denali HD is in the shop as we speak and the estimate was $812.50 after 9.95% sales tax.  They're replacing the outer shell, top plastic trim, GMC logo and painting it.  I'm sure PDR would be less than that.  Here's the damage.

What cover is that. Kind of off topic, sorry.

the top gate is now available on its own. I asked the dealer yesterday and got the part number. is is about $380 IIRC. comes paint ready.

Thats a good deal!  I called my dealer before I went to the body shop and it was 400 but was bare metal.

I didn’t know it would be so cheap to replace it. I would rather replace that entire top tailgate and paint it. Thanks a bunch you guys.

FYI,

I just had some work done on my tailgate by a PDR guy. He was able to get 99% of the issue out. I have to really look under the correct light to see the issue. Good enough for me. Only cost $100.

He said he has done 2 tailgates with the same dent you have and has had good luck with them. He said it was fairly easy to get to.

My issue was down around the emblems and was fairly difficult to get to
