Convert with Questions

Recommended Posts

After being on this earth for more years than I care to admit I finally bought my first Chevy. No kidding, I have NEVER owened a Chevy car or truck. Owned lots of GTOs, put lots of small blocks in early fords in the 60's, raced a few straight 6 1/4 mile dirt track cars and have built several very stout MK-IV Big Blocks for airboats, but I have never owned a Chevy. Until the HD2500/3500 series came out I believed Ford built a better truck. However, since my older 5.8L F-250 has always been a bit of a dog and my sons Super Duty F-250, V-10 has proved to be a little fragile I ordered a new Chevy.

Will take delivery on a new 2004 Silverado, Extended Cab, Short Box, LT, 8.1L, Allison with all of the bells and whistles next week. Been following the Fourms for a while and finally decided that since I was going to be a Chevy Convert I might as well join what appeares to be a great bunch of guys and gals.

I do have two simple questions I would like to get recommendations on:

1. Since I have a couple of Black Labs that like to go with me I have been trying to find a well made, removable seat cover for the rear seat. Been trying to find one made out of a material like Carharts are made from or maybe Cordura -you know, stong and tough. Extended web searches and visits to the few Truck Accessory stores in the area yeilded nothing worthwhile. Will be calling Ruff Tuff and Saddleman next week. Any ideas?????

2. Been using Weather Tech rubber floor mats in my cars and trucks for years but they are not doing as good a job as I would like, they don't cover enough area. Husky Liner appears to be the preferred floor mat for crappy weather areas but they are kinda flimisy. The Extream tend to slide around and don't have a deep enough try to catch snow melt and mud. An ideal mat would be one that covers like a Husky but be made form the thick rubber used by Weather Tech. Any ideas or suggesstions???

Looking forward to getting my new ride. Already have an additional set of aluminum wheels with studded snow tires, topper, Rhino Linner and Remote Start scheduled for installation when the truck gets here next week.

I might be able to answer your first question. Here's a couple of links for Cabelas I not sure if you checked there but they have a wide selection of seat covers for puppies.

Congrats on the new truck and welcome to the forum!!!

As far as the dogs go, I've seen this neat thing before (can't remember where) that actually hangs off the back of the front seat and creates a somewhat level riding area for your pooch. It extends over the floor to give them more room...

Nice ride, enjoy. I'm torn on the mats really- I've had the winter variety with the channels(probably similar to the weathertech), and the Huskys currently. I like the Huskys' ease of cleaning and wide coverage, but they don't sit flush with the center hump on the driver's side.
