Grumpy Bear's All-Encompassing 2019/2020 GM Truck Hatred Thread

What is dishonest (and pointless) is defining a motors usefulness by it sound.

A sound that in stock trim is nonexistent. The heater motor makes more NOISE.

Equally dishonest is a comparison to a leaf blower.

Dishonest conceptual jump?

I was second in that boat.

Right?

?

You guys really want to argue opinions?

Okay I will stipulate you HATE the sound and hate it so much you are willing spend large sums of $$$ to avoid it.

We good now?

I never defined a V6's objective usefulness by its sound. I simply said *I* have no use for such an engine, and prefer a motor that sounds better when I apply liberal amounts of combustible liquid to its eight cylinders.

And, Grumps, I teach my kids to reserve using the word "hate" for truly abhorrent things... like deadly sickness, feckless terrorists, or the Washington Redskins. I don't hate your cute, little V6.

Well, at least it will be easy to wrap your burly, hairy bear arms around her dainty little power plant of a heart.

So you don't HATE you just MOCK?

?

Mocktease or laugh at in a scornful or contemptuous manner

Scorn:  the feeling or belief that someone or something is worthless or despicable

Contempt: the feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration, worthless,

Gee there econometrics, how ever did I get the idea you hate this motor?

Perhaps it was your words.

?

Sound used to mean fast. V8s used to mean fast. They figured out awhile ago how to have an unrestricted quiet exhaust. Some of the faster cars aren’t V-8s. I don’t get hung up on the cylinders anymore. My wife’s car does 0-60 in the 5 second range. It’s quite, has 4 doors and not a V-8. We got 27 MPG @ 78 MPH on the last road trip. My truck has a V-8. It gets less fuel mileage and takes 2 seconds longer to get to 60. Application is what matters, not cylinders.

Good grief. ? Time for an ice cream run with your pup, Grumps.

I have no interest in a V6. You do. I'm not diffident about my engine. You are, it seems.

Good talk. Good talk. ?

So I was right.

Then from mockery to condescending.

Was that because of the foot in your mouth?

When held accountable for your words you react much differently that when holding others accountable for theirs, eh?

Really. I'm insecure because I held you accountable.

I can place my foot in my mouth more professionally than most, sir. This is not such a case, no.

You can’t deny the sound of a great small block V8 though!!  My 6.2l with Corsa exhaust sounds amazing.   Guy next door has a corvette and even he is impressed on how ANGRY it sounds now when starting it up!

The sound is a big part of the experience. That’s why I wouldn’t buy an EB F150. Sure, in the hottest form they are quicker than the 6.2 but they sound terrible.

Speaking of the experience, the illusion of speed is really blunted on these trucks anyway. They are very quick by any standard. But you have such a high driving position and isolated feel that you can’t really tell. Had a 96 6 speed LT1 Camaro that was slower than my truck to 60 but felt so much quicker.

They did make a lot of dynamic improvements to the T1 but it’s still a truck. And the moral of the story...fast trucks are kinda pointless but I still like em.

Up till recently for over for 40 years I had a loud vehicle that sounded good. Later just my toy was loud. I equated it with performance. So I appreciate good sound. At closing on 65 I want quiet. I may get another toy. It’s only been 3 months we’ll see. Don’t miss it yet. I don’t equal performance with loud anymore.

I never stated loud equals performance. Heck look at all those turd 90s fastback 5.0 mustangs out there and where out there in the 90s that sounded great but weren’t very fast. And the fast ones at the track seem to have a small block Chevy as there replacement.  Oh, but it’s still a Ford!  SMFH

I just stated a small block Chevy V8 with a great exhaust sounds fantastic.

I agree with you but I would like to see a HC Silverado or GMC Denali with the performance package vs a limited F150.  Car and driver had the Furd at 5.1 secs to 60 and the Silverado at 5.3 secs without the package. After just installing my Corsa exhaust and seeing how restrictive the stock flappers are. My father and I couldn’t believe that almost 50% of the exhaust is still restricted even when fully open.  I am willing to bet it can make up those .2secs.   Would be interesting to see or race.

I have the GM catback and a Roto-Fab intake, and the max trailer package with 3.42s. This is the best I could ever manage on the street. Most runs were 5.5-5.6.

C&D tends to get really optimistic 0-60 numbers, and 5.3 secs in a HC with stock exhaust and 3.23s is impossible in my book.

The advantage the EB would have is that you can actually boost launch. Any type of brake torquing on these trucks makes them fall on their ass.

Real world it would probably be a coin flip IMO. I’d like my chances.

Agreed on the optimistic part by car magazines but it gives us general consumers an idea. I am very eager to get my S&B CAI on and see the performance it makes with the Corsa Exhaust. I know it’s not huge numbers by any means but if it’s like my 18. You can tell a difference when both were on it compared to stock.
