You still have to put gas in 2 vehicles whenever you choose to drive either one and you still have to insure both vehicles.  If GM comes out with this truck. You aren’t having to “build” it like your talking. It’s already a hot rod!  
 
you could always be a greater at Walmart or a used car salesman. Take that money and use it for the new Ram. Just because your retired doesn’t mean you can’t do something different that is less stressful. Keeps you young and active. 
 
I detail and give plasma on the side of my regular job. All the money I make goes to mods on my truck. I have never dipped into my savings or regular checking account in modding my vehicles. 

It’s not a matter of being able to afford it. I don’t need a truck for work anymore. Up until 3 months ago I had a hot rod truck a trip car a sports sedan and a sports car. Now an Avalanche, sports sedan and a sports car. That’s me downsizing. I never just had one vehicle.

If no one has notice the OEM's have a strict set of guidelines on power to weight. There's a reason you can't get a 6.2 in a RCSB or a blown Hemi in same. Want more power? Carry more weight. Until it doesn't matter anymore. In the mean time lock out the computers and make it cost prohibitive to swap a real power into a light weight. Add lots of bling and the crows and raccoons will drown themselves to buy one.

There is a reason they don’t make a regular cab truck anymore.  THEY DONT SELL.  Furd is even getting rid of their super cab Raptor because everyone buys the CrewCab.  It’s not rocket science, nowadays people have families and friends and a crew cab does everything a suburban, blazer, bronco, station wagon, family sedan, and minivan did 20 to 25 years ago.   That’s why trucks are so expensive and have so many gadgets. Because the family man had moved in and using it as a family hauler with “occasional” sprinkled light truck duties in between.

I wouldn’t lie. I’m a truck guy. I also like big rear drive cars. They’re working real hard to make trucks as fast and efficient as those cars already are. I had 14 impales when they were rear drive. A few Oldsmobile’s and Buick’s. Nothing beats a full sized car on a road trip. I tried them all. And their still cheaper and better on fuel than a similarly equipped truck. And they make lots more money selling them. The last trip East I hit a few storms. Watching P/Us being moved around by the wind was amusing. My wife’s full sized car just motored along. While those panic p/u driver’s were pulling over. Some hydroplaning bad with the bad weight distribution with the wind and rain.

I don’t disagree with you at all. We had an olds delta 88 growing up. Took it to Seattle from Nebraska 2 times. Dad cut a piece of plywood to cover floor board so we could sleep. Drove amazing.  What I’m saying is that big sedans don’t sell anymore. That’s why they are being killed off by automakers.

My dad was a fan of the large sedans (Galaxies, LTD's. Bel Airs, Parisiennes etc.)   I loved them too, but the big gas guzzlers were frowned upon by my cohorts of the era. This is what first moved me from Austins to 1/2 tons.  Somehow it was acceptable to drive an equally thirsty  pickup!  I bought my first pickup in '71 and hope to get another in '21!

My dad was a fan of the large sedans (Galaxies, LTD's. Bel Airs, Parisiennes etc.)   I loved them too, but the big gas guzzlers were frowned upon by my cohorts of the era. This is what first moved me from Austins to 1/2 tons.  Somehow it was acceptable to drive an equally thirsty  pickup!  I bought my first pickup in '71 and hope to get another in '21!

My favorite were 01-06. As long as I can find clean old Chevys like my Avalanche that’s what I’ll drive. I just went to my local GM dealership and got an synthetic oil change for 53$. I was able to observe the job from a large window. I can’t complain with that.

Super Derecho that hit Iowa at 110 mph plus caught Pepper and I closer to 80 mph in a dead crosswind up I-39. I exited Ill 38 to put her tail to the wind. Glad I was only doing 55 mph when it hit us. First time I've experienced wind steer. Didn't like that much. It's sort of like drifting in a straight line.

 

Found a brick car wash with openings opposite the storms direction and sat there for the next 40 minutes then picked my way through the downed trees home. 

 

As I sat there I wondered what that may have been like on factory shocks/springs and at the higher factory ride height. I could see what effect it was having on the Semi traffic. Even sitting still on the edge of the Interstate the trailers were tilted nearly past over centering. Were they thankful to be at full weight? ? 

 

I also wondered when the craze to make pickups as large as semi's will end. Perhaps soon they will at least install retractable ladders for ingress and egress. Or maybe the door will unfold stairs like a Learjet. :tumbleweed: Wait and see I guess.

I see there is a gas guzzler tax on the highest Cadillac sedans but not on B class pickups. Funny that. 

 

I too am a BIG fan of full sized sedans for long travel just like my father. Although we migrated to FWD from necessity. That too will pass as the few large cars shrink in size and the SUV/Truck group gains size and weight. You will never see a half ton truck that rides like a Buick Electra 225. Cadillac 62, Galaxie/LTD, Catalina, etc.

I inherited my father's '90 Sedan DeVille.  It was huge and comfortable.  It was a FWD V8 which was strange, imo, but it was a nice ride. I imagined being pulled rather than pushed!   It was a great car in the snow.  Funny thing is that other drivers always felt the need to pass me on the highway.  I think there is a certain amount of stereotyping going on when we see a huge burgundy Cadillac driven by an older man wearing a ball cap!

I imagined being pulled rather than pushed!   It was a great car in the snow.  Funny thing is that other drivers always felt the need to pass me on the highway.  I think there is a certain amount of stereotyping going on when we see a huge burgundy Cadillac driven by an older man wearing a ball cap!

My father had a couple Cadillac Eldorado’s in the seventies 73,74. Front drive. His two sons [emoji851] just getting their license love smoking those front tires. Found out almost the hard way the don’t turn to good when the tires are boiling.

An OLD guy in big white Buick gets the same treatment. Like it's a challenge or something. Hardly as fast as I drive. But when they do choose to follow it seems to bother them less. The slower speed that is.
