Replaced my TB with something... different

Speaking from personal experience. BMW’s are awesome for two maybe three years then dump them and run. If there ever was an argument to lease vs. buy I would say BMW is it. That is a sweet machine I just would not want to own it one day past the warranty.

Totally agree. This advice is actually valid for any luxury brand. My wife had an Acura previously, which is toward the lower end of “luxury brands”, and we dumped it for an Odyssey. I was tired of every single service visit costing me $1800, on average. ?

Nonetheless, that X7 M50 is a killer ride, OP. I don’t blame you one bit for dumping a problematic TB for that. I’m in a similar position as you... realizing I don’t NEED a bed much anymore, and something with a 3rd row for my kids would be nice. However, I can wait out the first year of the Tahoe’s to see how things go, then I’ll compare the new 2022 truck refreshes to the SUVs and most likely buy a Tahoe. The increased rear space in them is legit impressive.

You bought a BMW hoping for reliability? LOL. Plus once you are out of warranty any repair costs will drain your bank. Not sure you were rationally thinking on this one.

I doubt many car purchases are made rationally or we would all be driving Priuses lol.

I see what you’re saying but would argue however that the differences aren’t as large (as they used to be). As these trucks get more complex and tech laden they are also more prone to expensive out of warranty repairs. I would be curious to see in a few years how reliable/cheap to maintain this latest truck platform is going to be. Personally, I’m not putting a lot of faith in it, given that GM can’t even get a window to not leak under warranty after multiple repairs. Seems like all the recent generations have been plagued by wide spread issues: electrical issues and drivetrain shudders in the K2s, AFM and low quality interiors in the GMT900’s, etc. From my anecdotal observations seems like GM stopped building long lasting trucks after the GMT800 which I still see many on the road, by order of magnitude more than the 900’s for example...

my neighbor has one, its a beast

Same. It's definitely a looker. Seems to have the grunt to back it up too. My neighbors X7 sounds a whole lot meaner than my truck.

It definitely sound pretty mad for a family oriented/luxury SUV.
Here's a cold start in "comfort mode"

Longest time I've ever kept a car is 51 months and it was only 3 months out of warranty (German make).  So the X7 has 48 month/50k miles warranty.  Doubt it'll be in original owner's hands after warranty.

On the other hand, my bride has a 2014 Audi A5 which just turned 20k miles.  Been outa warranty for 28 months now and has been trouble free.  My opinion is that we hear far more about the few 'trouble' cars than we do the many many trouble free cars.
