New type of locking header bolts

Recommended Posts

I put TOG's on my Av and was looking for some locking header bolts. I used the Stage 8 bolts on my last truck but they won't work on the Av - there's nothing for the "keys" to lock against.

I found what appears to be a slick solution:

I had the bolts on order for about 4-1/2 months. According to the owner, they were swamped with orders for the "old" engines with SAE threads. The new engines have metric threads so they put off manufacturing them until meeting most of the demand for the masses. Makes sense, but it didn't make my frustration any less!

I found information on the Breslin bolts in Super Chevy magazine, thought they looked like a really good idea, and ordered them. I waited about 1-1/2 months before installing my TOG's, wanted the bolts for the original install. I got tired of waiting and installed the TOG's with the stock bolts. I retorqued the stock bolts after about three weeks. When removing the stock bolts to install the Breslin bolts, I found that 3 of the 12 bolts had backed off significantly (not totally loose) after about a month.

I've had the Breslin bolts installed for about a month now, they don't appear to be backing off any. They are not cheap but I hate messing with constantly retorquing header bolts! I bought the stainless ones, they were $69 delivered.

Could you keep us updated on these locking header bolts??? I'm looking for a nice set to put on my mustang (race car). Sinces its gonna be a drag car only, i need something that will handle the abuse. They sound like a really high quality product.
