Bakflip MX4 issue

Recommended Posts

My MX4 came with the larger rubber blocks and separate instructions to install on 2019/2020 GMC/Chevy. With the rubber blocks, it rests on the back window.
Mine came with those larger blocks also. But even if I push on the cover towards the cab they won't touch.

Mine did not come with the blocks. I put the smaller ones on. I’ll contact manufacturer and see if they can send me some.

As for the rear view mirror, the visibility is amazing going dow the road. I can see everything. It really helps when I have the kids in the back with all their stuff blocking the window or things in the bed of the truck.

If you force it to the cab and then crank down the holders, it’ll stay against the cab. It also won’t obstruct the view of the review and bed view camera. I specifically choose this cover for that reason. Moving from a bumper pull to a fifth wheel and wanted to be able to have the cover out of the way and hitch up. It’s also convenient when filling the bed with stuff to have almost full access to the entire bed space. My old truck and cover took up half a foot or so of bed space fully folded up, which only mattered when I had bikes in the back. That half foot meant I couldn’t close the tailgate. Not an issue on the longer standard bed of this gen truck though and this style cover.

Yeah, that's what I do if I want to fold it completely. On another note, as easy as it is to remove, you can also take the whole thing off in a few seconds. This is my third BakFlip, second for this truck, and overall they are pretty good. Customer service is as well. I had an issue with the first one for this truck and they had me do some things and ended up warrantying it and shipping me another. No problems with this one. Currently, I took mine off so the dealer can work on the leaking rear window and it won't be in the way or them try to stand on it for prolonged periods. Kind of odd seeing the whole bed all the time again!

I'd be interested to see what the bed view camera and the rear view mirror look like from inside when you have the MX4 up like that. That's the bed cover I'm looking to get as well and haven't found any pics of the cover up like that. Any chance you'd be willing to either let me know whether or not those cameras are blocked or post a couple pics of the camera views with that up?

I dont have a pic from inside the cab, but it doesnt block my cameras at all if i push it forward and lock the bars in place. 20190809_200533.thumb.jpg.95052e39d48353c9f6b7b1b2edb3ec7f.jpg

I cant tell by your pictures if this is your issue but in order to get it to go all the way forward you have to make sure its "compressed" at the base. If I just fold it, the last fold leaves a gap between section at the base. I have to hold it vertical and  hold the base/bed end/bottom together to get it to lay all the way forward.

I'll try to get some pics in a bit.

If you look at the lower part of the fold you can see one has a larger gap than the other. The larger gap is as result of not "pinching" the bottom together during the last fold.  Hopefully this helps.

I had mine replaced under warranty for a different issue and they both fit the exact same and neither touched the cab like some of the earlier posters here showed.  I honestly don't think theres a "problem" here. If I apply a small amount of pressure it will touch the cab and then I can lock it in with the arms.

I'm afraid if you end up with a replacement, you're not gonna be happy with the one either.

Did you have to send your original one back to them? I havent tossed the box yet in case I do.

I have to apply more than a small amount of pressure to overcome the gap, when I tried it resulted in stress on the panel closest to the cab, the rubber joint, and the mounting plate attached to the rails and hardware

I think this will eventually lead to premature failure at one of those points. If it was designed to function this way Bakflip would have said so, but they are acknowledging the fact that it is not functioning as intended which is why they are warrantying it.

I have not been able to find any information on a Bakflip that does not touch the cab when folded from any other truck including Ford/Dodge/Toyota etc. If the next one doesn't solve the problem then I think Ill be going with a different cover.
