2021 Chevy Tahoe issues

Recommended Posts

I am the owner of the new 2021 Chevy Tahoe, after only having it for 3 Weeks, we noticed that the muffler has been melting the bumper!! What in the world.  Anyone else having issues with this vehicle.  I also have a service light turning on that dealerships, nor GM seem to know how to fix (Service Door Latch System)... I am starting to regret my purchase

I also have a 2021 Tahoe - while I haven't had the melting issue - mine has had the check engine light come on 3 times now.  It is throwing off a code that its overheating when its not.  It is back at the dealer for the 3rd time as we speak.  I am interested if anyone else is having this issue.

I just picked up a Tahoe HC last week. We put about 800 miles on it over Labor Day weekend. It is an awesome road trip vehicle and with the 6.2, it hauls! (considering its size)

A few minor issues that I've found with the Rear Seat Infotainment system...

  1. One of the rear monitors stopped working. It went black and wouldn't respond to any input. I had to completely wipe the system via the front screen. It's worked fine ever since.
  2. I can't for the life of me get my Andoid phones and tablets connected to the rear monitors via Miracast/WiFi-Direct. It just won't work.
  3. Because of (2) I hooked up a Chromecast, which works great...until it doesn't. It's like the system/monitors stop detecting the HDMI signal. It takes a complete vehicle shutdown/reboot for it to detect it again.

While minor, the RSI was a $2k option, so I'd like for it to work reliably and how it should. Fortunately, I think the issues can be fixed via software updates. Fingers crossed.

Went on ski trip 3 days after purchase.  Drove perfectly until our drive back home.  Engine light went off and started to run a bit rough.  Pulled into McDonalds and shut car off.  Would not start up again.  Had it towed to local dealership and they found some sort of busted valve.  They are fixing it as I write this.  Hopefully this remedies the situation.

Now that the Tahoe's have been out for roughly 5-6 months, some of these issues that I have read around here and other sites do you guys think they have fixed with later production models of the vehicles?

I had created a Tahoe or Sequoia thread last week, just discussing the pros and cons of both. We are going to be trading in our first year redesign 2018 Traverse and more leaning towards the Tahoe. I don't think we can really wait till the 2022's which may not come till July-August.

Does GM usually fix rampant issues that come up at the beginning of production on a vehicle year, with later produced vehicles?

Depends on the issue. A lot of the early production first-year vehicles suffer from electronic bugs. My 2019 RST was built in Feb 2019, so it was pretty early on, but not one of the first few months of production. I really haven't had any major issues with it.

I, too, was a little skittish about buying a first year model, but it's been great. I read a lot of the scary stories of other people having issues, which concerned me, but I never really had those issues.

Quite a few of the things that were buggy in the T1 trucks early on WERE solved through software updates or recalls/TSB guidance.

Did you ever get your rear media to work on Miracast? I went through several Miracast apps before I got it to work.

Lizeth, did you ever have the service door latch system problem fixed? Having the same issue with my ‘21 GMC Yukon, no one seems to know how to fix it it’s been in and out of the dealership shop for a few months now, pretty frustrating.

Only issue I’ve had is with the radio sometimes not allowing me to scroll thru my presets

Yes.  I get some occasional radio weirdness.

I have seen presets on the big display somehow get out of sync with the dashboard display.

Also, once in a while Serius/XM doesn't work (I think it says "loading").  I have to shut the car off and restart for it to work.

Apple CarPlay definitely needs refinements; it behaves oddly now and then.
