Leaf Springs Creaking & Groaning

Sorry, I thought we were talking about your solid rear axle with leafs?  I didn't talk about the ones with coils did I?  I am aware of the variety of rear ends in vehicle mfg.  Your going to have associated noise? Objectionable noise is the question and how much?  What I heard was not objectionable........

Sorry but this post is impossible to follow, each sentence is disconnected and four of them have question marks. My point is that you literally said:

complex independent suspension for "TRUCK Work" is the answer?

Independent suspension has NOTHING to do with leaf springs which I quoted as being ancient / medieval cart like. There are vehicles that have IRS with leaf springs and there are vehicles with solid axles that have coil springs. Springs have nothing to do with axle type.

What I heard was not objectionable........

As I said people walking down the sidewalk literally turn around to look at what that noise was because it startles them. That is objectionable by definition since normally people don't jolt to see what he scary noise was just because a vehicle goes up a driveway.

Saying it's normal for solid axles to make noise is not true. I've owned plenty of solid axle vehicles. Furthermore this truck just started making this noise 10k miles in, not from day one. Obviously something wore or lost lubrication.

Hey, I followed this just fine. :)

Just brought mine in today for the same thing and an oil change. I'm also at 10k and it just started last week making a loud clunk. Will update when I get the truck back

maybe think about it this way: The leaf springs are as loud as they have ever been. but the rest of your new truck is so quiet that now your neighbors don't even hear you approaching until they hear the springs squeak. That's why they look startled. We never cared about the spring noise in the past because the rest of the truck noise would drown it out.

You said it yourself, you are not used to this setup, so any sound is different to you. It doesn't bother me one bit.

The thing is:

1. It didn't make the noise until just now.

2. Even people who see me drive by them still turn around, it's not like im sneaking up.

The truck is definitely quiet for a truck overall. Not german sedan quiet, but pretty damn quiet minus this new issue.

I just rolled over 12K on my RST. It started creaking like this about 2 weeks ago. Anytime I climb into the back of the truck, it creaks on the driver's side like I have 150K miles on the truck.

I guess I'll have to have the dealer look at it next time I'm in... which - due to COVID - will probably be in a year for my next oil change. Lol ??‍♂️

Sounds like quite a few people are experiencing this noise past 10k miles :-/. Definitely seems like something is wearing or losing lube. Would be curious if everyone finds it's the issue posted by lapoolboy:

Will find out on Thursday!  I have an appointment to have two TSBs fixed at the dealer.

Sorry I couldn’t find the paper they gave me with the part number, but here’s the TSB they used to fix the creak with a leaf spring “insert”. Whatever that means.

Thanks for posting this tinbad! This is exactly the TSB lapoolboy linked. Sounds like that is the issue... Wonder if this ends up being an every 10k miles part...

Man it's a $2 part (84730971), im tempted to just order and DIY on my lift. It'll take me longer to drive to the dealer ?
