Diagnostic Alert:

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me with these “diagnostic alert” text messages I received gm. I was up in the mountains on some logging access roads. Coming back down I put her in L 1 and enabled the hill decent, which worked beautifully in 4Hi. The truck just rolled down the steep hills and only  had to use the brakes a couple times. So about halfway down I had a message come up in the instrument info saying Service the StabiliTrak  stability control system, pushed the ok it went away. A few minutes later it returned.

When I got home later I received two text messages from GM at least I think it was them.

Diagnostic Alert:

Service the StabiliTrak stabitiy system in your 2017 Sierra within 7 days. Txt stop to cancel.

Diagnostic Alert:

Service the Antilock Braking System in your 2017 Sierra within 7 days. Txt stop to cancel.

Driving the truck I do not feel anything different. Starts off the same stops the same. I don’t want to take it to GM dealer and hand them cash for nothing.

What’s your take on this?

Is this a normal occurrence with these new trucks?
Will the dealership know what’s wrong from these alerts?

There is a code or multiple stored somewhere.  Could be in the ECM, EBCM, TCM, etc.

I assume you have ONstar working?  The ONstar system will monitor the vehicle's computers for any DTCs or issues.  If a DTC sets, they send you a notification.  I think they can even get you the codes too.

Not sure what kind of phone you have, but for $100 you can get a BlueDriver OBD bluetooth scan tool and read the codes yourself.  BlueDriver supports the enhanced diagnostics on GM vehicles so it can do a full system scan for codes unlike most other low cost OBD scanners that can only read the ECM, ABS and airbags.  https://www.bluedriver.com/products/bluedriver-scan-tool
