Need Rear View Camera for 2020 Silverado w/ Lear Truck Cap

Recommended Posts

I just bought a 2020 Silverado 1500 LTZ and plan to add a Lear 100XQ truck cap to it. The truck has an awesome video rear camera which I use vs the mirror. I'm not talking about the "Backup" Camera. The rear view camera is mounted high up on the rear of the cab, not the tailgate. I'd like to somehow move that camera to the back of the truck cap (or wire in a new camera) and still use the OEM rear view display. Any thoughts?

No, you don't need to do anything to it. I would not want to move it anywhere else.

The truck cap will block that camera.

Sorry for the confusion. There are 3 cameras (rear view camera, backup camera and bed view camera).  The rear view camera is mounted next to the bed view camera high on the back of the cab. On the LTZ (package?) there is an electronic rear view display built in to the rear view mirror. You can use is in video mode or mirror mode. It uses the camera mounted high on the back of the cab not the tail gate. That is what is being blocked.

Sorry for the confusion. You are referring to the backup camera not the rear view camera. On the LTZ (package?) there is also an electronic rear view display built in to the rear view mirror. Yes. I am also interested in doing so, been waiting on a topper until I can.

I saw on another post that leer may have been working on something, but never said if it came to be yet.

Since they are going into year three on the T1 model, you may be waiting a long time.

No such animal from GM presently and they show little or no interest in requests for a solution when adding a top on the bed.

Gen5diy has an extension cable to go from the drivers side connector above the left rear seat to a external camera in your topper. The cable is 21ft long. plug and play. I bought a taillight assembly on ebay with the factory camera. I made a bracket to mount the camera under the window frame inside the topper. Works awesome. Link to the cable. It is built for the camaro.
