New round of rebates.

Recommended Posts

Looking to upgrade to a 2500 and right now they have $4000 in rebates. I have never ordered a truck before, and they say you get the supplier pricing and rebates at the time of pick up. So do any of you guys have any insider knowledge of what the next round of rebates is going to be? Fully loaded 2500 SLT diesel the supplier price is $71,336 plus rebates.

Not sure but I know in Canada at least you cannot order a 2020 2500HD other than a crew cab. Switching over to 2021 for Dbl Cab with start up in Sept. So not sure if those rebates/promos are still valid.

You can't put a rebate on something you don't have.  Rebates are to made to move product that they don't want sitting on lots when the new models come out, very few 2020's were actually made due to COVID-19, so I can't see much of a need for rebates.  Dealer lots are almost empty up here in Alaska, even the used car lots are empty fields of asphalt.  I did see a huge shipment of Buicks show up, but they are probably from China like most of Buicks manufacturing not being in the US (the new Envision is 100% China).

This ^^^

The lots on the Gulf Coast have top end 4 x 4's, white regular cab long beds, and double cabs, and very few of those. Lots of trucks are "on the way". The trucks that folks wanted are gone. Even if they had doubled the rebates I would not have been tempted to buy the $65,000.00 Silverados they did have.

It's almost funny watching how the dealers are constantly moving what few vehicles they do have around trying to make it look like they have more inventory.

Yes. Generally, this is exactly how it's done. But the dealer discount may be something the dealer does with GM's blessings or if the dealer is doing it himself. So that part is a "depends".

Caveat...it's when you SIGN the purchase order/paperwork. Let's say the dealer has a truck in the system right now.  But the truck's TPW (target production week) is July 27. It won't be shipped to the dealer until AFTER July 31. BUT- if you go in on July 31 and sign the purchase order for the truck, provided it's been built and has a VIN, you have officially purchased said truck and "took delivery" July 31, and you would be entitled to any and all rebates/incentives available on July 31.

It's a gamble though. Let's say they back it off the train or truck or whatever, and smoosh the fender. Too bad, you already own that truck, you can't walk away from it. And what really would suck is when Aug 1 rolls around and they're offering $2K more in incentives than they did just the day before. Guess what? You bought it last month, so the higher rebates don't apply. Of course, if they offer $2K LESS than that Aug 1, then you make out like a bandit, even though you won't be picking up your truck in person until sometime in August.

It's my understanding that with at least some dealers, you can get the current incentives when ordering a vehicle, or the incentives when you receive it.

Ford dealers, that is true.  Never saw a GM dealer offer that.

RAM also does it that way.  They lock you into the current incentives when  you build the truck, but if the incentives are better when you pick up the truck they will honor those.

Not sure what I want to do.  I found a truck that's on it's way to the dealer that has all the options I want.  Signed some paperwork for it including the current $4000 incentives.  However, they want me to come in before the end of the month to finalize the rest of the paperwork and lock in that incentive.  What I don't know is what the incentives will be next month.  Possibly better since they will want to get rid of 2020s...?  Or possibly worse since the trucks are selling so fast anyway.

I need to decide either to sign paperwork this month or roll the dice on the incentives when I pick up the truck in August.  It sucks that they don't do it like RAM/Jeep.

That does not include HD.  The 4000 doesn't include the AT4, it must be very popular!

But the truck you want may be gone by next month!

Don't know about Chevy but I got this from GMC recently.

My opinion is there won't be any significantly higher rebate coming in August.  If you like the truck and the deal, do you really want to nix the deal over 500 hypothetical bucks?  What if GM drops all the rebates?

I’m in the same boat. I’ve seen several trucks that have the options I want within 300ish miles of me but I am holding out hope that the incentives next month won’t exclude the AT4 which is what I really want.  If they exclude them again I suppose I’ll go the Denali instead. But half of me thinks that if people keep buying these trucks with little discount GM will be stingy with future incentives. IDK
