Steering play anybody??

Recommended Posts

Ever since I installed my PC 6" lift a have had a lot of steering play. It's not too excessive but it is enough to be a pain in the a$$! My first thought is that the steering gear is worn but everybody keeps telling me that there is no way that's possible. Ive had the alignment checked twice and everything is ok as well as everything else up front. I actually tightened the worm gear and that took out the play and fixed everything. But a few days later the play came back........

Anybody else run into this one? Any thoughts or ideas?

Does it have a steering "damper" or shock up there?

Only times I have ever had much play in the wheel, my idler arm was bad.

But with a lift, don't they give you dropped idler/pittman arms?

I doubt thats much help.....He!!, I don't think it will align right if the idler arm is bad anyway, and you said you had that checked.

Mine only started recently. Lift has been on almost a year now. I think it is due to wearing tie rod ends. Think about it. You have 4 of them. If they each have just a little play it will add up. I am getting a steering stabilizer, this will take care of a lot of it. So, check you tire rod ends and your idler arm.

Thanks, Ill check the front end out again and see if I have missed something. As far as the stabalizer, I am using the one that came with the PC kit. Not sure if it is any good, but I cant seem to find any heavy duty ones to replace it with. Ive tried calling 4WP (the place that did all my work) and all they ever say is "uuhh, were not sure" or "not real sure what to tell ya". Worhtless.... :jester:

:shakehead:

Thanks for the help!
