mitchely03
My setup currently in my 2015 5.3 is stock manifolds, AFE HIghflow catted 3” yipe. > 3” exhaust to side exit in front of rear wheel. truck is tuned by 5star in South Carolina. my question is. Am I missing out much by not having long tube headers? i have an opportunity to get a set of short tube JBA headers for a steal. But don’t wanna do the install if I am not going to notice anything. I also am weary of the longtubes as my exhaust is pretty loud now I can only imagine how loud it will be with longtubes. so if anyone cares to chime In I would appreciate it! CamGTP
The JBA headers are no better than the cast steel log manifolds. Long tubes can offer more horsepower throughout the curve, exactly how much you gain is tough to say. You may not even notice 10-15hp in the butt dyno to be honest. Catted long tubes with another resonator should really help with rasp/drone.
langston1726
I’ve had Texas Speed longtubes with cats on my 2015 Silverado for over year now and have no regrets. Good power gains and no drivability issues. I had to play around with my muffler set up to dial in the sound I was after. Currently running a single Borla oval Xr1 (40493) inline with a Borla Atak (400844) crate muffler. I absolutely love it. Nice and throaty when I want it to be and very quiet otherwise. Unless you run a big Magnaflow or stay with the stock cat back, it will be hard to quiet it down with a single muffler set up and longtubes. An extra muffler or resonator really seems to take the edge off on cold starts and when you get into it. You will feel some power gains. I wouldn’t expect more then 15-20 hp though. The gains with shorties will be hard to notice. Maybe a slight change in sound. It’s really not that much more work to install longtubes and a Y pipe. With the headers and Blackbear tune, the truck is much more enjoyable to drive over stock. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
