Body lift install help on 02 K2500 Suburban

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am almost done installing a body lift on my 2001 K2500 Suburban but I'm stuck on the front bumper brackets. The brackets they've included in the kit don't seem to fit exactly. To make them fit I'll need pull out the Sawsall and trim a bit of the OEM bracket. Have you had this problem and had to do this?

Shoot me an email if you can advise me a bit.

Thanks!

this may help

Step 34: (1/2 Ton Only) Before reinstalling the front bumper, the bumper brackets that are welded to the frame must be notched to clear the new brackets. After installing this I'm not exactly sold on the fact that any notching was really necessaray.

Step 35: Reinstall the front bumper. Remove the valence before hand since it will not clear the frame horns w/o modification. The install of this was fairly easy, however aligning it wasn't the easiest.

This is for 1500 trucks, so I'm not sure if it's the same for 2500's or not, but you do need to cut a triangular piece off the frame just to mount the brackets. You can see my friend smoothing out where the passengers side was cut off. The piece is still on the drivers side.

As far as those loop looking things on the ends of the frame, I cut mine off. This kept me from having to cut the tow hook hole in the plastic air dam any bigger. I did do some minor trimming of the back of the inside edges just to keep it from touching that section of frame. If you want to use the factory tow hooks, you'll need to cut a small notch in the bottom of the opening. You could also swap and flip the hooks, but only one bolt will go back in and I didn't feel that was secure enough for me. You could also use aftermarket hooks that can be found at auto parts stores and use one of the exsisting holes in the side of the frame and then just drill a second hole for the new tow hooks. I'm considering getting a Tahoe/Suburban Z71 aird dam, and will probably go that route if I ever do it.

So, the triangular piece DOES need to come off to install the brakets, but the loop, frame horn things don't HAVE to be cut off, IF you cut the hole in the air dam bigger.

Good luck.

DONE!

13.5 hours to do it, too. Geez that was long. I can turn a wrench on many things and in pretty good time but what took me sooooo long on this project was the by-far the worst set of instructions I've ever seen in my life. My kids toy assembly instructions are easier and more clear to read! The pics were dark and unclear and the text more general than exact. Also, I had to trim the front bumper frame flanges and that wasn't mentioned in the instructions. The rear bumper bracket they gave me needed trimming because it wasn't a close match at all. That added up to lots of wasted time scratching my head and making workarounds.

I took some digital pix and notes to send to Performance Accessories so they can see what I did.

If anyone has a 2001 K2500 Suburban and is gonna lift it, you can contact me and I'll give you some supporting info!!

Thanks again to all who've offered info to me along the way!
