It’s been real

Recommended Posts

It’s been real, folks. Sold my 2018 Silverado Monday...saying goodbye to this great community.

Managed to put 53,000 miles on the truck in two years. Loved that truck! Was a little concerned about a few things that started popping up (mostly the shutter/misfire I was getting on the highway while going up hills). Other than that, great ride.

Going to miss this place. Really enjoyed Grumpy Bear’s build thread, among other things.

Happy trails.

What are you buying / driving now?

Honestly, I haven’t bought anything yet, been using my wife’s Mercedes ML350 for the past four days (that won’t last much longer). I might buy a used Tundra or leave the truck world all together and buy a Lexus GS350. I owned a Lexus LS460 before the Silverado.

Been looking at Tundras closely myself. Bought the wife a Highlander and theres something to this whole buy it and drive it with no issues stuff. It kills me to leave GM too but they have not been the same since bankruptcy. Good luck to you, keep checking back to see if we ever figure out the shake haha.

If I was going to buy a tundra, it’d be like an ‘07-‘09 with like 100k miles.

My dad sold his perfect condition ‘09 base tundra for like $12k and got an ‘19 trd tundra for like $40k

It is absolutely hysterical how similar the two trucks feel driving. It’s like the same damn thing. The ‘19 just has some tacked on flash.

I almost pulled the trigger on a gs350, but then I drove the model 3 performance.

if you want an awesome sedan that costs very little to own. Get the stealth model 3 performance. You get the long range awd and then you can pay a couple grand for the software update to get the same power as the performance model ( LR awd has same drivetrain as perf)

Will make the lexus gs350 feel like it’s 15 years old.

Im curious why you think GM is so bad?

I have a 2020 GMC Denali HD Duramax and absolutely love it, Last GM i owned was a 2006 GMC sierra.

Been in Fords and Toyota in between and right now i wouldnt even consider either again

2013 Tundra, 2011, 2014 F150's and 2018 F250 Powerchoke

Good to know, but I’m actually going to “downsize” and when I say that, I mean in price. I can get a GS for around $14,000 used right now with 100,000 miles, 2013-2014. I trust the brand enough where I don’t worry about the mileage being too high at that point. Drive one yesterday...114,000 miles. I swear to god it felt like a brand new car. So tight, so quiet, so responsive. Interior was mint without a single sign of wear.

But I bet the Tesla is awesome. You can’t beat that electric motor power and torque.

What was your issues with the Tundra? I haven’t seen or heard anything bad about them except for the rusted frame that they fix. Have a friend that owns a shop, says he sees these things coming in with 300,000 miles...just change the oil, tires and brakes, that’s about it.

I do like the Silverado though. I’ll never get that type of fuel economy out of a full sized V8 truck again. Hell, I won’t get that fuel economy out of 90% of the cars and SUV’s I’m looking at. I averaged 24 mpg over the LIFE of my truck. Not on a single trip, but the entire time I owned it! 53,000 miles of driving. Let’s say I needed to do lifters and a torque converter at 120,000 miles?? The cost of those repairs still wouldn’t exceed the money I saved on fuel compared to other trucks.

A tundra is more reliable, thats a fact.

When you buy a tundra, you a buying a 15 year old platform with a 15 year old drivetrain. It’s easy to be reliable when you do that.

There is no question every other brand makes a better performing truck for the money in nearly every measurable aspect. To me, reliability is important, but it’s just a metric that I need to weigh. Some people put more weight on reliability than me, and the tundra is the best choice for them.

I was looking at those years gs as well.

also check out the m37 at a similar price. Not the m56 and not the q70.

rented an m37 and I freaking loved it. Also rented a q70 which is nearly the same car but with electric steering and I didn’t like it at all.

If you get a gs, look for the radar cruise button on the steering wheel, and the mark levinson sound system.

I loved my 07 Avalanche and many GM’s before that but after tons of shaking, clunking and other issues on my 14 they bought it back and now I have a 17 Denali thats had the TQ convertor flushed 3 times and still shakes along with homemade rubber and zip ties around my leafs so it doesn't clunk every time I turn, horrible clunk and jerk 1-2 shift and already had both LCA’s replaced, all this before 36,000 miles. Brother in law has a 16 that he bought new and its already had lifters collapse 3 times. Im not bashing GM by any means, I love their stuff but the reliability is just gone, you will probably have alot of luck with the HD line, I dont know anything about them.

My 14 GMC would have been my truck to keep if it wasn’t for cylinder deactivation. It was quiet road well, good fuel mileage with the cylinder deactivation turned off. The replacement cost for consumables would have been reasonable. Trucks now with 8-10 speed transmissions, start stop and other high cost useless electronics would make out of warranty repairs very expensive. I always believe the 6 speed transmission was the perfect sweat spot for these trucks. Reasonable to rebuild. As long as I can find a clean pre 2013 GM that’s where I’ll stay.
