piston slap

Recommended Posts

Mine slaps, Sounds like a dmax when cold. Sounds like loose lifters. Not sure to trade it next summer or start litigation. I love the truck. I overlooked the noise but with all the hipe I might need to act on it. I drive about 1000 mile a week for work with some idle time as well. The truck exhaust sounds good and the truck never lacks power. I have the 75000 mile warranty so I'm good to there. I have over 40 on it now. No oil usage and have used mobil one since new. Only sounds bad when cold and only for a short time at start-up. Any Ideas on course of action?

You guys may not have piston slap but you will be changing defective injectors at about 40 to 70K from what I am hearing from my neighbor...service manager at the local GMC dealer.

I don't think they will fail but if so they're covered under the 100,000 mile warranty.

Everytime I ask he always says they have been changing them out on a regular basis..I don't know whats up with that...He also says the local farmers are really disappointed with them. And guys don't shoot the messanger here....I am just posting some firsthand info I thought you may want to know about.

Present conclusion is less than clean fuel w/less than adequate OEM filtration. Many of us have added additional filtration and expect that will forestall any premature wear of injectors. They are of Bosch design and as you know its the type system used by all three manufacturers. 'IF' there is a design deficiency (which I doubt as Bosch been making them for a long while) I expect it would be resolved before most of us reach the 100,000 mark. However, like said earlier ~ indications are that dirty fuel along w/inadequate filtration are the contributing factors for injector failures so far.

Shotgun do you know if the farmers are using off-road fuel?If so that is probably the source of problems for them.Odoh I just changed the factory filter on my 18,000 mile Dmax and it looked great compared to all of the pics I have seen of various diesel specific sites.I buy fuel from 2 place that sell huge amounts of fuel and avoid the small low volume stations like the plague when traveling.I really don't want to add additional filters,I may just switch to the Baldwin filters for more peace of mind.

Shotgun,

Sorry to change the subject, just a quick question.. What kind of Alpine equipment do you have in your truck and how was it to interface with the factory stereo??

Thanks

Gary
