Rear brakes fast wear

Recommended Posts

My truck was developing a little pulsation when coming to stop.  Based on previous experience, I knew this was an indication of a forthcoming need for brakes.  I took it for a brake inspection at my local auto store (Canadian Tire) and I was very surprised to hear that my fronts pads looked near new and my rears were about 95% gone.  Rotors too.   I expected some issue up front because typically the front brakes wear faster.   The truck only has 45k miles. I did pull a travel trailer for a couple of seasons but it had its own brakes.  I trust the shop and they didn't share any concerns about the uneven wear between front and back.  I thought I'd at least get a lecture about driving with the parking brake on (I haven't) but nothing out of the ordinary was reported.  Any suggestions on why this uneven wear occurs?   It seems just when there may be enough meat on the bone to buy a toy....

Rears could have been lacking lubrication on the caliper slides causing them to drag a little. Also your parking brake isn't the pads on the caliper, you have a drum brake inside the rotor that is purely parking brake, it's called a drum in hat design.

Thank you.  I believe I once knew this!  I had also forgotten that I had disc brakes on the rear when I was informed  about the repairs needed.  I think my brain is deleting old files to make space for the new normal stuff! ?
