cant we all just get along?

Recommended Posts

ive been visiting the forum for a while now along with other forums and i think (we) need to end the debate over which engine is better, because we arent getting anywhere and seem to just be pissing each other off. for years the debate has been going on and the truth is...its not about which is better. its about an individual preference...so there is no such thing. ive heard it all. dmax has higher resale, mods are cheaper, lower power range, fuel is cheaper, engine will last longer, its quiet, its faster.

the 8.1 owners....its cheaper, dont smell, exhaust sounds better, just as powerful, same resale percentage wise, less costs to keep up.

listen, i dont care which is faster as long it can pull my toys...if i wanted fast i would of kept the vette, we own a big a$$ truck aint none of us going anyplace too fast,

the 43k bent me over backwards for my 8.1 i dont want want to pay anymore,

8.1 csk...diesel sounds crappy too

8.1 expensive gas...diesel stinky fuel

well these are all thing an individual needs to consider themselves and not be pressured by one or the other.

when newcomers want advice we should hit them with facts and thoughts to consider not personal opinion: how many miles they'll drive back and fourth, is diesel fuel offered where they frequent, do you have the extra up front premium, can you handle the smell and slight noise.

diesel v gas is a lifestyle issue.

i propose a truce, no more flaming, no more hostility.

YEAH!! Let's call a truce here amigos!! I wouldnt care what engine I had just as long as I could stay with GMC/Chev. I wanted the biggest big block you could buy, and I got it. I know I get a little bent when the 8.1 get's bashed, because I know what a good truck it is. The duramax is the best diesel you can buy, especially with the allison strapped to it. THEY BOTH RULE THE ROAD!! If you have 40K+ to spend, you can pretty much buy anything you want, so do it!!!!!!

I just have the small block 6.0L and I am all good with it. We are here becasue we all love GM Trucks and that is a great common interest to have. To each their own and a little friendly shot here and their is fine, but flaming is just wrong.

:D:D I can pass everything, but the gas station in my Chevy and that is just fine with me.....lol

I enjoy debating. All I have done is state my personal experience with both powerplants.I present facts not opinions. The only thing I'm saying is a Dmax is cheaper to own than a 8.1 when all costs are considered. That is the only fact I like to stress to people. If something does'nt like or want a diesel truck that just fine with me,I always buy what I want.I have not made any reference ever about a 8.1 getting poor mileage, for a 496 it does very well.I like to present solid facts to people that are in the market for a new truck.I have a unique prespective having owned one of each. The points I have always made are from a purely finanacial view point the Dmax is a worthwhile $65.00 added to my GMAC payment. In my case I will save several thousand dollars on fuel costs with the diesel engine in the 100-150 k miles I plan on keeping it.This is a fact not an opinion. When I bought my 8.1 truck I went in with the thinking that I did'nt care about fuel mileage and never did for the 2 years and 58,000 miles I owned it.The qt of oil every 2-3 tanks of fuel did get under my skin though and I basically hated the truck because of it.Once I get that feeling about a vehicle it is living on borrowed time. This will sum up my feeling on the 8.1=when I bought a 03 3500 Express cargo van for work in July I would have gotten the 8.1 if i was available in that chassis based on my old trucks oil burning being a exception to the norm.It was'nt available so I settled for a 4.10 geared 6.0 liter. The 6.0 is very powerful for a smallblock, and gets great mileage for what it is.The 6.0 does'nt suffer with CSK and has'nt used any oil in the 11,000 miles I have put on it in the 3.5 months I've owned it.If it's a Chevy/Gm product I like it but I don't have blind faith in something if it has a defect.

I appreciate your fact but it is a fact under your particular set of ownership and operating conditions. It may not be a fact for everyone.

I thought the part about"my personal experience" explained that. It's a pretty simple statement really.Robert do you even own a Dmax or 8.1.If not how can you comment one way or the other.Spend 75k on two trucks, put 80k miles on them like I have and let us know what you find out.My "facts" other than the oil burning are very consistent with the bulk of HD owners.
